2-! INTRODUCTION

Potato Planter is mounted type and has two rows. Tubers in hopper is picked up automatically by the

bucket elevator. Shaker is fixation for tubers on bucket to single.

3-! WORKING PRINCIPLE OF THE MACHINE

.Machine is attached on the three-point linkage system. The move obtained from the wheel is

transmitted by the transmission mechanism. Band over buckets getting through the hopper

takes on top of potato tubers. Shaker is provided to be a single tuber. Tubers chopped by

opening leg is dropped out in standard distances to the drill. The tubers are covered by the

covering mouldboards.

4-! ATTACHING OF THE MACHINE TO THE TRACTOR

Attaching to the three-point linkage system, the machine is taken in a flat floor. As seen in the

Figure -3, the middle jointed arm is adjusted in a way that the top side of the tuber hopper will

be parallel to the ground. Equalizing the height of the side arms, a bit of side clearance is

given. The hydraulic mechanism of the tractor is taken to the floating position.

5-! PREPERATION OF THE MACHINE FOR SOWING

5.1. Distance Adjustment Between Rows

The machine can be adjusted in the distances of 62 ~ 85 cm. The machines are delivered to the

customers as adjusted in the distance of 70cm. For changing the adjustment of the distance between

rows;

1.! Fixing bolt of the pinion shaft of the bottom bant pulley are loosened up.

2.! The hopper is totally disassembled.

3.! The linkage nuts of the planting units on the main frame are loosened up.

4.! Admitting the middle linkage point of the machine as a reference, the two units are

slided in same amount of distance.

5.! The adjustment distance is examined by measuring the tip points of the opening legs.

6.! Mounting nuts of the planting units are clamped, hopper is mounted and the pinion

shaft bolts of the bottom bant pulley are clamped.)

5.2. (Distance Adjustment of Planting Over the Rows)

12 different distance of (b) (Figure-3) is acquired in the planting distances of max45 ~min15 cm over

the rows.( Table -1) . The planting distance over the rows is changed in the dual operation of the

sprocket set mounted to the bottom pulley of the bucket elevator with the sprocket set on the axle

shaft. Tension spring of the chain is declutched. Loosening up the fixing bolt of the sprocket set over

the axle shaft, the sprockets providing the distance over the rows selected from the table are lined up.

Fixing bolt are clamped to the suitable hollow over the axle shaft.

5.3. Sowing Depth Adjustment

As seen in the Figure-4 , the fixing bolt of opening leg related with the planting unit is loosed up. The

distance of (h) (Figure -3) between the point at which the wheel of the machine is in touch with the

ground and the tip point of the opening leg is adjusted. It must be taken into consideration that the two

opening legs are in the same height.

5.4. Adjustment of the Bucket Elevator

As seen in the Figure-5, the nuts in the springed tension mechanism of the top bucket elevator pulley

is stretched by clamping. So as to make the bucket elevator stable, the nuts in the springed tension

mechanism should be clamped in a balanced way. The bucket elevator mustn’t be stretched.

5.5. Shaker Adjustment

As seen in the Figure-6, the shakers of both bucket elevators are adjusted relating to the required

intensity. As the adjusting arm of the shaker is turned upwards, the intensity of shaking will increase

and as it turned downwards, the intensity of the shaking will decrease.

5.6. Covering Mouldboard Adjustment

As seen in the Figure-7, the measures of covering mouldboards are three. As seen in the Figure-7-A

sinking distance in soil of covering mouldboards are adjusted relating to the soil structure. As seen in

the Figure-7-C, The measure of clamps of covering mouldboards are adjusted and the clamps are

tightened. As seen in the Figure-7-B, angular measure of mouldboards of covering mouldboards are

adjusted relating to the soil structure and the mass of the soil required to piled up on the tuber.

6. MAINTENANCE

•! In every process, all of the nuts and bolts should be checked, the ones stretched should be screwed.

•! The machine should be oiled over the grease nipples with the grease oil every day during its process.

•! The chains should be checked at least once a day and they should be oiled after every 10 hours of

process.

•! The air pressure of the rubber band is 2,5 kg/cm²(36 psi) and it should often be checked.

•! At the end of the planting period, the machine should be cleaned and oiled especially the parts need

to be oiled. The machine should be left idle on the wedges in a dry and if possible covered

atmosphere, and the tires should be preserved deflated.

•! In the periods when the machine is not operated, protecting it from weather conditions such as

raining and snowing will help it prolong its durability. For this, it should be preserved in closed

places or it should be covered with a waterproof cover.
