TULANE OPENS THE 2007 OUTRIGGER HOTELS RAINBOW CLASSIC AGAINST SAINT MARY’S (CA): • The Tulane Green Wave (6-3) puts its three-game win streak on the line when it opens the 44th Annual Outrigger Hotels Rainbow Classic against Saint Mary’s (Calif.) in the third game of the classic this Thursday. Making its first appearance in the annual event, Tulane comes into the game averaging 80 points in its last three contests, all of which were victories on its home floor, and the Green Wave defense has clamped down on the opposition, al-lowing just 63.3 points in each of the last three contests. The Wave has matched its longest win streak of the season (Tulane opened the season with three straight victories) with registered impressive wins over Gardner-Webb, which upend-ed Southeastern Conference power, Kentucky, and put together its best overall performance of the year in a win over Indiana State. TU is 1-2 on the road this season and has yet to play a game on a neutral court. The Wave dropped its last two road contests at Buffalo and to a Syracuse team, who was receiving votes, and had been previously nationally ranked. Tulane is averaging 70.3 points and 37.7 rebounds per game and is shooting 44.7 percent from the field, 31.3 percent from behind the three-point line and 73.1 percent from the free-throw line.

David Gomez leads three Green Wave players in double figure scoring with 12.2 points per game, while Kevin Sims is second with 11.4 points per contest and Robinson Louisme is third with 10 points per outing.

Louisme is also the team’s top rebounder with 6.3 boards per game, while Sims leads the squad in assists and steals with 4.9 and 2.4 per contest, respectively.

SERIES & NOTES: • Thursday’s game marks the first-ever meeting between Tulane and Saint Mary’s (Calif.), • The Wave is 1-1 this season against first time opponents. TU fell at Syracuse, but rebounded with a win over Gardner-Webb. Tulane’s game against St. Mary’s (Calif.) will mark the Wave’s final game this season with a first time opponent. • The Green Wave has an all-time record of 1-1 against teams from the West Coast Conference. Previously, Tulane has faced WCC members Portland State (1-0) and San Fran-cisco (0-1), while Saint Mary’s (Calif.) will mark TU’s third opponent from the league.

NOTING TULANE: • Tulane basketball was featured on ESPN.com last week in a column by Andy Glockner. To view the story, please visit: www.sports.espn.go.com/ncb/columns/story?id=3134758

• The Green Wave has a key Rating Percentage Index (RPI) win over Auburn, and now has a win over Gardner-Webb, who defeated Southeastern Conference member Ken-tucky earlier this season. • Tulane’s 32-point victory over Huston-Tillotson in its last outing marked the largest margin of victory since a 46-point, 87-41 win over Loyola (La.) on Feb. 7, 2006. • The last time the Wave held an opponent to less than 50 points was Southern Miss in a 50-47 win at home on March 1, 2006. • Tulane has a record of 4-4 at neutral sites under head coach Dave Dickerson. • TU ranks 20th in the country for blocked shots (5.9), 37th for field goal percentage defense (38.1) and 41st in the nation for free throw percentage (.731). • Kevin Sims has reached double figures in seven of nine games this season, and has finished in double digits 23 times in 38 career games. • Seniors Donnavan Stith and David Gomez are each tied for fourth place among the school’s top shot blockers with 111 apiece. • Junior Daniel Puckett earned his first start this season (14th of his career) against Huston-Tillotson, while freshman Jake Henderson played in his first game as a collegian.

SCOUTING THE GAELS: • Saint Mary’s (7-1) opened the season with seven straight victories en route to a No. 24 national ranking. Along the way, the Gaels upset No. 11 Oregon, 99-87, and Big East member, Seton Hall (85-70). Saint Mary’s had its win streak snapped in its last outing on the road at Southern Illinois, 71-56. SMC owns a 1-0 mark this season at neutral sites after dispatching San Diego State, 69-64, at Anaheim, Calif. The Gaels and Green Wave have one common opponent this season– Nicholls State. TU downed the Colonels at home, 73-51, while SMC posted an 84-63 victory. FROM ONE EXTREME TO THE OTHER: • In its last road contest, Tulane played at Syracuse, N.Y., where the tempera-ture was 12 degrees the morning the team departed for New Orleans. The Green Wave’s next road trip will take the team to sunny Honolulu, Ha-waii, where the average temperature for the month of December is 74 degrees, or a difference of 62 degrees from one trip to the next.

GOMEZ EYEING HISTORY ONCE AGAIN: • Senior David Gomez has already achieved one career landmark this month and is staring down another milestone this week. In Tulane’s game against Huston-Tillotson on Dec. 5, Gomez became the 29th player in school history to reach the 1,000-point plateau. Entering Thursday’s night game against Saint Mary’s (Calif.), Gomez is on the cusp of becoming the 15th player in the 98-year history of Tulane basketball to registered career marks of 1,000 career points and 500 rebounds. Gomez currently has 482 career boards and needs 18 to reach the distinction. He is also just 29 rebounds shy of breaking into Tulane’s Top-25 list for career rebounds.

FILLING IT UP: • Tulane’s offense took a tumble in back-to-back road losses at Buffalo and Syracuse, averaging just 55.5 points in the two outings. However, the Green Wave’s offensive production has rebounded, lighting up the scoreboard in its last three games with 75+ points, including an 84-point outing vs. Gardner-Webb and 80 points coming against Indiana State. Tulane is averag-ing 80 points per game in its last three outings.

DISHIN’ IT, STEALIN’ IT: • Tulane’s Kevin Sims is on a roll. Sims, who is currently the team’s second leading scorer with 11.4 points per outing, also leads the team in assists (4.9), and his 2.4 steals per contest not only leads TU, but puts him 23rd among the nation’s top steals artists, and first among C-USA players. This season, Sims has been responsible for at least two thefts in all but one game and notched a career-best of six at Syracuse. On the assist side, he has distributed four or more assists in seven games. Tu-lane has an 8-3 record when Sims dishes out five or more assists in a game this season.

LOUISME’S HOT HAND: • Tulane junior Robinson Louisme started the season with the hot hand, hit-ting his first 13 field goals before suffering his first miss in the fourth game of the year. Through nine games, Louisme has hit 33 of 46 field goal attempts this season for an unheard of 72.0 field goal percentage. Here’s a breakdown of Louisme’s game-by-game field goal makes/attempts:

Auburn 4-of-4 (1.000)at Charleston Southern 3-of-3 (1.000)Nicholls State 6-of-6 (1.000)New Orleans 3-of-4 (.750)at Buffalo 4-of-6 (.670)at Syracuse 5-of-8 (.630)Huston-Tillotson 4-of-7 (.571)Gardner-Webb 0-2 (.000)Indiana State 4-6 (.670)

LIVIN’ AT THE LINE: • Tulane’s game against Gardner-Webb marked the first time this season junior Robinson Louisme failed to register a field goal, going 0-for-2. However, his lack of production from the field didn’t detour Lousime from ringing up nine points for the game. In what was a career day from the free-throw line, Lousime attempted 12 char-ity shots and converted nine, which marked a career high. Over the last three games, the career 58 percent free throw shooter has sank 19 of 24 attempts over the past two games for 79 percent. Louisme was perfect from the line against Huston-Tillotson, going 6-for-6.

A PERFECT EFFORT: • After not attempting a free throw in the first half of its last game at Syra-cuse, Tulane drained all 15 attempts in the second half and finished 15-of-15 from the charity stripe, which marked the first time TU had finished perfect from the free-throw line since Jan. 7, 1998, when the Wave connected on all 10 attempts against Saint Louis.

BEST IN THE NATION: • Tulane’s perfect game against Syracuse from the free-throw line is tied for the best performance in the nation this season.

GOMEZ RANKED AMONG NATION’S TOP SHOT BLOCKERS: • Senior David Gomez’s per game average for blocked shots of 1.9 puts him 56th nationally. Gomez leads Tulane with 17 rejections this season.

PUCKETT HAS COMING OUT PARTY AGAINST SYRACUSE: • Don’t tell junior Daniel Puckett that Syracuse is the fifth ranked win-ningest men’s basketball program in NCAA history. After being plagued with knee injuries over the summer, through preseason and into the first five games of the season, Puckett’s playing time and production had been minimal. However in Tulane’s outing at Syracuse, Puckett came off the bench and torched the Orange for season highs of 16 points (one point shy of his career record), six field goals (6-of-11), including two three-pointers (2-of-3), and was perfect from the free-throw line (2-of-2).

PUT ME IN COACH: • Tulane’s lineup has been very consistent minute-wise this season. Only three players (Sims, Wheaton, Gomez) are averaging above 25 minutes per game. Kevin Sims leads the squad in minutes played with 33.1 per outing, while David Gomez is second with 25.3 minutes per contest, and Matt Wheaton is the third player with 25.3 minutes per contest.

TICKLIN’ THE TWINE: • Through nine games, Tulane has six players shooting better than 45 percent from the field, and two players are hitting better than 50 percent per clip. Leading the way is Robinson Louisme, who is shooting 72.0 percent from the field (33-46) on the year. Here’s a breakdown of TU’s hot-handed shooters:

Donnavan Stith .523 (23-44)Matt Wheaton .486 (18-37)Eric Vianney .467 (21-45)David Gomez .465 (39-82)Daniel Puckett .460 (23-50)

The group is hitting on a combined 52 percent (157-304) of their attempts.

TULANE CONTINUES BLOCK PARTY IN 2007-08: • Tulane averaged 6.3 blocks per game last season and con-cluded the year with a school and Conference USA record 188 blocks, which ranked as high as 10th nationally. The Wave already has 48 blocks for a 6.0 average, which ranks second to only in Conference USA, and is 20th nationally. David Gomez leads TU with 16, while Robinson Louisme has chalked up 13 and Donnavan Stith has seven. TU’s total has been a team effort with all but two players (Mayhane/Henderson) having at least one block this season.

SMOTHERING D-FENCE: • One constant for Tulane last season was its defense. The Green Wave held 17 of 30 opponents to a field goal percentage of 40.0 percent or lower. In its 17 wins, TU’s opponents combined for a shooting percentage of 37.8 percent (385-1018). Through nine games, Tulane is holding its opponents to 38.1 percent (198-520) shooting from the field, including just 31.6 (61-193) percent from behind the 3-point line. TU’s field goal percentage defense ranks second in the league and 37th in the country.

WELCOME TO THE CLUB: • Senior David Gomez is the latest Green Wave player to join a very elite club at Tulane. Gomez entered the Huston-Tillotson game just eight points shy of the 1,000-point plateau. He managed to hit the mark at the 5:29 mark in the opening period when he was fouled on a made lay-up. He connected on the free throw and became the 29th player in school history to surpass 1,000 career points. The last player to score more than 1,000 career points was Quincy Davis (2003-06) with 1,109 points, while the very first player to surpass 1,000 career points at Tulane was Jim Riffey with 1,179 points from 1946-50.

FOGELMAN MAGIC: • Tulane head coach Dave Dickerson has turned the Green Wave into a very selfish team on its home floor. Through 30 games at Fogelman Arena under Dickerson’s direction, TU is 23-8 (.742), including a 5-1 record this season, an 11-4 mark last season and a 7-3 home mark in 2005-06. Since Fogelman (then Tulane Gym) opened in 1933, the Green Wave has posted a 542-263 (.673) record in the venerable arena. TU’s 77-62 victory over Auburn in the 2007-08 season opener marked the 800th game played at Fogelman Arena.

WORTH THE WAIT: • Tulane’s 77-62 win over Auburn was more than just a vic-tory in the season opener. The victory marked TU’s first win over an SEC school since 2001-02 when the Green Wave upended Van-derbilt, 87-77, at New Orleans Arena, but was the first win over an SEC opponent at Fogelman Arena since the 1976-77 campaign when the Wave slipped past Ole Miss, 64-59.

TULANE TABBED SEVENTH IN CONFERENCEC USA PRESEASON COACHES’ POLL: • The Tulane men’s basketball team was selected to finish in seventh place in the 2007-08 Conference USA race according to the preseason coaches’ poll. Despite a fourth-place finish as year ago and the return of seven letterwinners, including four starters, the Green Wave was picked to finish near the middle in this year’s race by the league’s coaches. One year ago, Tulane notched a 17-13 record, the most victories since the 1999-2000 season, and the Wave’s 9-7 league mark was marked the program’s most conference wins since 1996-97. The finish also earned the Green Wave a first round bye in the conference tournament for the first time since 2000.

WELCOME ABOARD: • The 2007-08 campaign marks the first year on the Tulane coaching staff for a pair of newcomers. Assistant coaches Dick Bender and Chris Hawkins each joined the Tulane staff over the summer and begin their first season on the Uptown campus. Although he begins his first season at Tulane in 2007-08, Bender is no stranger to TU head coach Dave Dickerson, as both coaches served on the men’s basketball staff at Radford Univer-sity for four seasons (1992-96). Bender came to Tulane from Indiana State University where he completed his 10th overall season on the Sycamores’ staff in 2006-07, and his fifth campaign as an associated head coach after being elevated to the position following the 2001 campaign. Hawkins came to Tulane after spending seven seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Buffalo, where he was instru-mental in the Bulls’ recruiting efforts and also contributed to the scouting of opponents and coaching the perimeter players. Hawkins played for current TU assistant coach Dick Bender,

TULANE ROLLS AUBURN, 77-62Stith Leads the Green Wave with 12 points

New Orleans – Senior Donnavan Stith led three Tulane players into double fi gures with 12 points and all 10 Green Wave players that saw action reached the scoring column to take out Southeastern Conference member Auburn, 77-62, in the season opener for both squads at Fogelman Arena. Both teams stormed out of the gates and blis-tered the nets from behind the arc. Auburn (0-1) buried its fi rst three three-pointers to take a 9-4 lead, but Tulane (1-0) roared back and tied the game on a trey by sophomore Eric Vianney. Sophomore Asim McQueen came off the bench to hit a free throw and Vianney followed up with his second trey to ignite a 12-2 run and the Wave never looked back. McQueen knocked down two more free throws to give TU a 28-18 advantage with 6:07 remain-ing in the opening period. Auburn managed to slice the lead to seven points on a pair of charity shots from Rasheem Bar-rett with under four minutes remaining, but Tulane connected on six straight free throws and freshman Johnny Mayhane drained his third trey of the half to give TU a 38-27 advantage at intermission. Tulane continued to pressure the Tigers with its smothering defense and extended its lead to as much as 21 points in the second half. However, the Tigers made one last run at the Green Wave with a 20-7 spurt that closed the gap to eight points, 63-55, when Barrett hit a jumper with 4:05 left on the clock. Following a timeout, sophomore Kevin Sims hit a three-pointer that gave the Wave a double-digit lead, and Auburn never threatened again. Stith led the Wave with 12 points and several spectacular dunks and a wrap-around jump shot under the basket that brought the Tulane faithful to its feet. Sims contributed 11 points and six assists, while Vian-ney added 10 points in his Tulane debut. GOMEZ LEADS TULANE PAST CHARLESTON OUTHERN, 66-60TU Senior leads all scorers with 22 Points

Charleston, S.C. – Senior David Gomez led all scorers with 22 points and Tulane outlasted Charleston South-ern, 66-60, at the North Charleston Coliseum. Playing in its fi rst road game of the year, Tulane (2-0) had to withstand a late rally in the fi nal minutes to improve to 2-0 for the fi rst time since 2003-04. Tulane only trailed once in the game, but never led by more than 10 points until midway through the second half when freshman Johnny Mayhane jump-started a 9-2 run with a jumper at the 11:02 mark. eric Vianney hit 1-of-2 free throw attempts to increase the lead to 11 points, the Wave’s largest of the game. Facing its largest defi cit of the game, Charleston Southern (1-1) refused to go quietly. The Buccaneers, who hit 11-of-23 three-point attempts for the game, used a 10-1 spurt in the waning minutes to climb to within two points, 59-57, with 1:53 remaining. CSU continued its run with a free throw by Giedrius Knysas and Jamarco Warren drilled one of his fi ve three-pointers . Chris Moore brought the home team to within a bucket with a lay-up at the 1:53 mark. Following the timeout, senior Matt Wheaton was fouled and nailed both of his charity shots to increase the Wave lead to four points with just 65 seconds remaining. On the ensuing possession, CSU’s Omar Carter got an open look, but his three-point attempt missed its mark and Gomez was there for the crucial rebound and was immediately fouled. Gomez walked to the other end of the fl oor and sank both attempts to increase the visitor’s lead to six. However, the Buc-caneers sliced the defi cit in half on a Warren trey with 0:16 remaining. Sims was fouled on the inbounds pass and hit 1-of-2 free throw shots, and CSU couldn’t fi nd the mark in the closing seconds.

LOUISME POWERS TULANE PAST NICHOLLS STATE, 73-51Four Green Wave players each double fi gures

New Orleans – Junior Robinson Louisme led four Tulane players in double fi gure scoring with a team-best 14 points and the Green Wave won its 16th straight game against Nicholls State with a 73-51 victory in front of 1,935 at Fogelman Arena. Tulane improved to 3-0 for the fi rst time since the 2003-04 campaign and the Wave extended its home win streak against non-conference opponents to eight straight. TU also improved to 20-7 at Fogelman Arena under third-year head coach Dave Dickerson. Nicholls State (1-2) stole the show early by jump-ing out to a 12-point lead on two occasions during the opening 10 minutes of the fi rst half. The Colonels drilled three treys and held Tulane to just four points during a 16-4 run. Senior Matt Wheaton hit two free throws at the 10:22 mark to give the Wave just its sixth point. NSU followed Wheaton’s free throw up with a Dominic Friend lay-up that extended the lead back to 12 points. How-ever, Friend’s bucket would be the last for the Colonels for the next six minutes. Facing its largest defi cit of the young season, Tu-lane dug in defensively and ignited on the off ensive end behind Louisme’s 10 points and Wheaton’s eight points. The Green Wave reeled off a 20-1 run and took the lead for good on a lay-up by freshman Kris Richard. By the time Michael Czepil nailed a short jumper to snap the run, the Colonels were trailing 26-21. TU built its lead to seven points four diff erent times in the fi nal 10 minutes and sophomore Kevin Sims followed a Nicholls State lay-up with 0:07 remaining by going coast-to-coast in the waning seconds and beat the buzzer with a fl oating jumper to give the Wave an improbable 35-28 lead at the break. In the second half, the Green Wave increased to its lead and led by as many as 25 points in the closing minutes.

TULANE’S COMEBACK BID FALLS SHORT AGAINST UNO, 74-67 David Gomez leads the Wave with 15 points

New Orleans – Senior David Gomez scored 15 points and Tulane shot 51 percent for the game, but the Green Wave suff ered 19 turnovers and its attempt to come-back from a 17-point defi cit fell short in a 74-67 loss in front of 3,074 at Fogelman Arena. Tulane (3-1) suff ered its fi rst loss of the year, and much like the last time the Green Wave opened with a 3-0 mark in 2003-04, New Orleans (3-0) was there to hand TU its fi rst loss of the season on its home fl oor. Tulane fell behind early and trailed by as many as seven points on several occasions during the fi rst half of the opening period. The Wave shot 47.8 percent in the fi rst half, but surrendered an uncharacteristic 13 turn-overs. TU scraped back and trailed by just four points on baskets by Gomez and a three-pointer by junior Daniel Puckett that pulled the Wave to within four points. How-ever, UNO’s Kechan Myers and James Parlow connected on consecutive three-pointers to give the Privateers an 11 point lead. Myers drilled another trey and Kyndall Dykes broke free for a lay-up with 13-seconds remaining and the Privateers took an 11-point lead into the break. New Orleans continued to play well during the early minutes of the second half and used a 12-4 run to build a 17-point advantage, its largest of the game, on a pair of Dykes free throws at the 13:35 mark. However, Tulane refused to go quietly to its inner-city rival, and shored up its defense with some gritty play over the next 6:40 to climb back into the game using a 21-2 run. UNO’s Ben Elias banked in a jumper from the right side to help the Privateers regain the lead, but Vianney tied the contest for the third time with a lay-up with 6:05 remaining. On the ensuing possession, Elias missed a short jumper, but Bo McCalebb grabbed the off ensive carom and was fouled. McCalebb connected on 1-of-2 free throws to give his team a one-point lead that it would not surrender.

POOR FIRST HALF PERFORMANCE DOOMS TULANE, 65-51Kevin Sims paces the Wave with 15 points

Buff alo, N.Y. – Senior David Gomez and sophomore Kevin Sims combined for 28 points, but a dismal fi rst half shooting performance was too much to overcome in the second half and the Green Wave fell to Buff alo, 65-51, in front of 1,887 at Alumni Arena. For the third straight game, Tulane (3-2) fell behind early and for the second consecutive contest the Green Wave was unable to overcome its fi rst half woes. TU suff ered its worst shooting performance of the season with a 34 percent eff ort and committed 19 turnovers in its second straight outing. Trailing by 17 points at halftime to Buff alo (4-3), Tulane slowly mounted a comeback, much like it did in its last game against New Orleans when the Wave overcame a similar 17-point setback to tie the game late before eventually falling to its cross town rival. The Wave trimmed the Buff alo lead to 11 points when Gomez broke free with a turn-around jumper in the lane. Minutes later, Sims was fouled on a layup and he hit the free throw for the conventional three-point play to bring TU to within eight points. Tulane would eventually pull to within six points on a Gomez break-away dunk with 8:23 remaining and the Green Wave looked to be back into contention. However, the biggest obstacle all night continued to plague the Green Wave. UB’s Sean Smiley came off the bench and hit all fi ve of his three-point attempts and a total of 8-of-10 fi eld goals to fuel the Buff alo off ense. Smiley was the Bulls’ answer each time Tulane threatened throughout the game. With Tulane trailing by just six points, Smiley hit a pull-up jumper in transi-tion and then knocked down his fi fth trey of the night to extend Buff alo’s lead to 11 points and Tulane never threatened again.

TULANE FALLS LATE AT SYRACUSEDaniel Puckett tallies 16 points

Syracuse, N.Y. – Junior Daniel Puckett came off the bench to score 17 points, but Syracuse countered with four players in double fi gures and used its size advantage to dominate the boards on both ends of the fl oor in a 73-60 Orange victory in front of 21,173 at the Carrier Dome. Tulane (3-3) suff ered its third straight loss since opening the year with a 3-0 mark, but gave Syracuse (5-2) all it could handle for much of the ball game. The Green Wave erased double-digit leads in both halves, but came up short in the end. Syracuse held a seven point lead heading into the second half and the Green Wave had possession of the ball to open the period, and promptly cut the defi cit to fi ve points on two free throws by sophomore Kevin Sims. The two teams traded baskets and Tulane remained within striking distance until Jonny Flynn jumper jumpstarted a 6-0 spurt. Seniors Donnavan Stith and Matt Wheaton put an end to the run when Stith hit a lay-up in the paint and Wheaton drained his second three-pointer of the game, and all of the sudden Syracuse was clinging to a six point advantage. However, the Orange broke the game open once again with an 11-5 run that extended the home team’s lead to 12 points. But, as it had all game, Syracuse found a way to shoot itself in the foot, and this time it was with a pair of technical fouls. Flynn was assessed a technical foul. Sims canned both shots and minutes later Orange coach Jim Boe-heim was handed a technical foul. Puckett, who had made one free throw prior to the technical foul, stepped aside while Sims chalked up two more charity shots, and then Puckett converted his second free throw to pull Tulane back to within six points. But despite the TU comeback, Syracuse shut the door on any upset attempt by reeling off 15-4 run.

LOUISME, TULANE BLITZES HUSTON-TILLOTSON, 75-43David Gomez surpasses 1,000 career points

NEW ORLEANS – Junior Robinson Louisme led three Tulane players into double fi gures with 14 points and the Green Wave snapped a three-game skid with a 75-43 victory over Huston-Tillotson in front of 1,149 at Fogelman Arena. Tulane (4-3) never trailed in the game and used a 10-2 run early in the contest to sprint out to a double-digit lead and never looked back. Sophomore Asim Mc-Queen, who scored a career-best 10 points, hit two free throws to spark the spurt and later hit a lay-up during the run. The Green Wave needed less than nine minutes to reach double fi gures and put the game away. Senior David Gomez entered the night just eight points shy of the 1,000-point plateau, and he managed to hit the mark at the 5:29 mark in the opening period when he was fouled on a made lay-up. He connected on the free throw and became the 29th player in school history to surpass 1,000 career points. Gomez’s conventional three-point play gave Tulane a 20-point lead, its largest of the fi rst half, and the Wave took a 34-17 led into the break. The second half turned into a track meet with TU outscoring Huston-Tillotson (0-6), 41-26. The Green Wave’s lead was never less than 17 points, while its larg-est advantage of the game came with 4:20 remaining when freshmen Johnny Mayhane knocked in a lay-up for a 39-point lead. Along with Lousime and McQueen, Gomez topped off his milestone night with 12 points on 4-of-5 shooting from both the fi eld and free-throw line. Lou-isme tied the Rams’ Titus Butler for game-high rebound-ing honors with eight apiece. Louisme also rejected four of Tulane’s six blocked shots, and collected three steals.

SIMS, STITH LEAD TULANE PAST GARDNER-WEBB, 84-79Stith notches 15 points, 10 rebounds

NEW ORLEANS – Sophomore Kevin Sims scored a team-high 19 points and senior Donnavan Stith came off the bench to produce a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds, and the Green Wave outlasted a feisty Gardner-Webb squad, 84-79, in front of 1,195 at Fogelman Arena. Tulane (5-3) led for much of the second half and looked to be in control heading into the fi nal two min-utes of the game with a nine point lead. However, Gard-ner-Webb (5-6) had other ideas and demonstrated the same ability it used to upset No. 20 Kentucky earlier this season on the road at Rupp Arena. The Runnin’ Bulldogs used an 8-1 run in a span of 1:49 that culminated when Takayo Siddle drained the team’s 11th three-pointer of the game and cut the Green Wave’s lead to just two points, 81-79, with 0:39 remaining. Sims was fouled on the next possession and he sank his fi rst free throw, but left the door open for Gard-ner-Webb when he misfi red on his second free throw attempt. The Runnin’ Bulldogs looked to tie the game, but a Grayson Flittner three-pointer missed its mark, and TU senior Matt Wheaton grabbed the rebound and was immediately fouled. Wheaton nailed both free throw attempts to ice the game for the Wave.

GOMEZ’S 19 POINTS LEADS TU PAST INDIANA STATE, 80-68Three Green Wave reach double fi gures

NEW ORLEANS – Senior David Gomez led three Green Wave players into double fi gures with a game-high 19 points and Tulane dispatched Indiana State, 80-68, to notch its third straight win at Fogelman Arena. Tulane (6-3) took control of the game late and never looked back once it gained a large lead. Much of the Green Wave’s success was its balanced scoring and distribution of the ball. All 10 players that saw action for TU reached the scoring column and the Wave combined for 21 assists, including a game-high from sophomore Kevin Sims. Tulane shot s miserable 11 percent from the foul line in the fi rst half, but was electric in the second half, hitting 20-of-23 for 87 percent, which essentially was the diff erence in the game. The contest was back-and-forth for much of the way with 10 lead changes and four ties. Much like the fi rst half, Tulane looked solid during the fi rst fi ve minutes of the second period and managed to build a 10-point lead on two diff erent occasions. TU led by three-points at the break and used a 9-2 run to take a 44-34 lead on a lay-up by Gomez in the opening mo-ments of the second half. Indiana State stayed close and cut the lead to single digits several times, but Tulane answered the call and maintained its 10-point lead for a majority of the fi rst 10 minutes of the period. Gomez gave the home team some breathing room when he knocked down a three-pointer to give Tulane a 71-57 lead, its largest of the game, with just over four minutes remaining. TU’s defense took over in the latter stages of the contest with several key blocks and held ISU to without a fi eld goal for a just over a three minute stretch. Moore’s three-pointer broke the drought, but the Syca-mores still trailed by double fi gures with 1:52 remaining.
