It looks at the coming of the Spirit of Truth, who leads His people into all truth. This is the Comforter whom the Savior, before He ascended into heaven, promised to send to His disciples. This is the Spirit of God who came, in the wind and in the fire, to the assembled Christians in Jerusalem, filling the room with His presence and lighting their lives with the warmth of His love. And when He came to them, they a/l began to speak - "to speak in other languages as the Spirit enabled them. " They spoke, and the people were miraculously moved. They spoke, and the Christian Church was born. The Gospel ha~ begun its victorious course - through a/l nations, through a/l ages. ~ , On Pentecost the Psalinist's words came true - "The Lord announced the word, and great was the company of those who proclaimed it." The Word came from God - the Word of life and salvation. And the company that proclaimed it was great indeed - the mighty, innumerable voices of the redeemed. The Lord still gives the Word. He gives it every time the message of salvation is proclaimed from a Christian pulpit; every time a Christian opens his or her Bible; every time a group of believers gather in His name to study that Word and to think about its meaning; every time a little one hears of God's love from the lips of a parent or teacher; every time a child of God speaks to the Lord in prayer. But more. He gives that Word every time an infant is brought to the baptismal font, every time a Christian kneels at the altar rail to receive the Lord's holy Supper. For the Word that is spoken and taught and read is no less real and no less powerful when it comes in baptismal water or when it is contained in the bread and wine. For the written Word and the sacramental Word both reveal Him who is the Word made flesh. It is He who on Pentecost was proclaimed to the people; to Him they were converted; in Him they were baptized; for Him the apostles witnessed; in Him the martyrs died. Yours, in the Savior, Down through the centuries that Word has been proclaimed. And the great company that has proclaimed it has grown still greater with every passing age. We are the heirs of the promise of Pentecost. Our hearts have been set on fire with the fire of Pentecost. May our voice always proclaim the Word of Pentecost. Let's not neglect the privilege we have of coming before the Lord, worshipping Him in His house, and being renewed throughout the year, BUT ESPECIALL Y during the upcoming summer months. I~------------------------------

FROM THE PASTOR - "PENTECOST - THE GIFT OF THE HOL Y SPIRIT"

Dear Fellow Pilgrims:

We just celebrated the Day of Pentecost, which is one of the four great festivals of the Christian Church. Itlooks at the coming of the Spirit of Truth, who leads His people into all truth. This is the Comforter whom theSavior, before He ascended into heaven, promised to send to His disciples. This is the Spirit of God whocame, in the wind and in the fire, to the assembled Christians in Jerusalem, filling the room with His presenceand lighting their lives with the warmth of His love.

And when He came to them, they a/l began to speak - "to speak in other languages as the Spirit enabledthem. " They spoke, and the people were miraculously moved. They spoke, and the Christian Church wasborn. The Gospel ha~ begun its victorious course - through a/l nations, through a/l ages.

~ ,On Pentecost the Psalinist's words came true - "The Lord announced the word, and great was the company ofthose who proclaimed it." The Word came from God - the Word of life and salvation. And the company thatproclaimed it was great indeed - the mighty, innumerable voices of the redeemed.

The Lord still gives the Word. He gives it every time the message of salvation is proclaimed from a Christianpulpit; every time a Christian opens his or her Bible; every time a group of believers gather in His name tostudy that Word and to think about its meaning; every time a little one hears of God's love from the lips of aparent or teacher; every time a child of God speaks to the Lord in prayer.

But more. He gives that Word every time an infant is brought to the baptismal font, every time a Christiankneels at the altar rail to receive the Lord's holy Supper. For the Word that is spoken and taught and read isno less real and no less powerful when it comes in baptismal water or when it is contained in the bread andwine. For the written Word and the sacramental Word both reveal Him who is the Word made flesh. It is Hewho on Pentecost was proclaimed to the people; to Him they were converted; in Him they were baptized; forHim the apostles witnessed; in Him the martyrs died.

Yours, in the Savior,

Down through the centuries that Word has been proclaimed. And the great company that has proclaimed ithas grown still greater with every passing age. We are the heirs of the promise of Pentecost. Our hearts havebeen set on fire with the fire of Pentecost. May our voice always proclaim the Word of Pentecost.

Let's not neglect the privilege we have of coming before the Lord, worshipping Him in His house, and beingrenewed throughout the year, BUT ESPECIALL Y during the upcoming summer months. Don't forget yourChurch! Don't forget the Lord! Because He never forgets about you!
