reading. Fill in your reading log. We will be working on how to recognize literary language in our reading. Tonight, be on the lookout for how authors are using language in clever ways. Are they using language to compare? To make you think? Jot down any clever words or phrases you find as you read
Ex. “Amanda had a bright idea…” bright idea=good idea
Writing: Narrative Writing. This is our last week of realistic fiction writing. Our goal is to get ready for publishing. Go back to a story you have already written or a story you began but did not complete and start to edit/revise your writing. Make sure that your work will be ready for publishing. Use the writing checklist to help you.
Math: Short Response #1.
Tuesday 2/14/17 Reading: Bigger Books Means Amping Up Reading Power. 30-40 minutes of reading. Fill in your reading log. Tonight, check on your comprehension as you read. At the end of each chapter, or after reading at least 3-4 pages, jot down some questions you have as you read. For example: “Iris is (how is she acting?) because she is (how is she feeling?)” Ex: “Iris is yelling because she is mad at her baby sister.”

Social Studies: Social Studies: Social Studies: Civic Ideas and Practices. Read the article, “The Right to Vote,” and answer the following question: How is voting today different from voting in the past? Use key points from the text to explain your answer.

When you get to a confusing part, or a part that took you a long time to get through, jot down notes about that part of the story. Examples of things to jot can be 1. Who is speaking? 2. What are they doing? 3. Where are they?

Thursday 2/16/17 Reading: Bigger Books Means Amping Up Reading Power. 30-40 minutes of reading. Fill in your reading log. Tonight, check on your comprehension as you read. After you are done reading a chapter, try rereading through difficult parts. As you reread, write some notes about what you understand. Jot down the characters, what are they doing, what are they thinking, how are they changing?
