ELSEVIER Veterinary Immunology and Immunopathology 46(1995)367 Veterinay ‘““un$bY immunopathology AAVI News 1994 Distinguished Veterinary Immunologist The American Association of Veterinary Immunologist Distinguished Veterinary Immu- nologist Award, generously sponsored by American Cyanamid, was presented last Novem- ber at the annual Conference of Research Workers in Animal Disease Meeting in Chicago. The 1994 recipient, selected “For Outstanding Contributions and Achievements in Veter- inary Immunology”, was Dr. Ivan Morrison of the Institute for Animal Health, Compton, United Kingdom. Dr. Morrison is a graduate of the University of Glasgow, where he received his BVMS in 1972 and his PhD in 1975. From 1975 to 1989 he worked at the International Laboratory for Research on Animal Disease, Nairobi, Kenya, initially as a post doctoral fellow, even- tually as Program Coordinator for Theileriaparuum research. Since 1990 he has been Head, Division of Immunology and Pathology, Animal and Food Research Council, IAH, Comp- ton where he directs a program of approximately 90 scientists and staff. Author or co-author of over 130 refereed publications, his research has made major contributions to the understanding of cellular immune mechanisms in cattle and characterization of bovine T cells. He has also contributed significantly to knowledge of the immunopathogenesis of theileriosis, trypanosomiasis, and more recently, important viral infections. Dr. Morrison is internationally recognised as an exceptional program leader and a rigorous but sympathetic mentor. As aptly stated by one referee, “a very personable colleague, he brings eminence to the veterinary profession as a whole and has raised the scientific profile of veterinary immunology in particular”.
