In light of the profound transformation processes by which urban spaces are affected, the institute pursues the goal to contribute to the development of new and future-oriented planning and interdiscplinary concepts which correspond to the extensive problems and challenges of our time.

Due to the fact that both research and teaching activities have continuously grown ever since in this field, the Institute for European Urban Studies (IfEU) was founded by five professors in February 2004, based on the first postgradual programme “European Urban Studies” that started in 1999.
