There are many questions that we need to ask - of our clients, but also of ourselves.
The first of which is why?
Why do we do what we do?
Because we are the protectors.
We are the educators,
We are the change makers,
We are the deliverers of HOPE.

Asking why we do what we do is important; however – the most vital question is:
HOW do we do what
we do ?
It Takes a Village… Every Generation faces new Challenges – the villages we
need to RAISE our children are not as
strong, Aren’t as vibrant, & don’t
always have the skills needed to pass
on to the next generation –
This is what we do – this is the POWER OF US…
We are the Justice League!

Are you realizing your full potential?
What are you doing with your power?
HOW DO YOU PROTECT YOUR POWER?
Because if you don’t….
… you burn out
Burnout is the #1 killer of empathy and the destroyer of “good helpers”
Much like kryptonite,
It drains us of our powers,
sometimes without us even
knowing it….
Been There, Done That!

Instead this is a little more accurate…
Symptoms of Burnout & Stress:
 Characterized by over-engagement or disengaged
Emotions are over-reactive or blunted Produces urgency and hyperactivity or
Produces helplessness and hopelessness Loss of energy
Loss of motivation, ideals, & hope Leads to anxiety disorders
Leads to detachment & depression Primary damage is emotional
May make life seem not worth living

It’s not just our clients who need a village!!!
Happiness can be found in the darkest of places if only one
remembers to t/rA on the light… ~Albus Dumbledoor
Clients KNOW! If clients don’t feel like
they can connect with you – especially kids – many shut down further.
For some they will not seek additional services.
What you do with and for clients –
BOTH POSITIVE AND NOT
transfers over to the rest of us. TALK ABOUT
POWER!

YOU SEE, MOST CLIENTS WON’T THINK OF ONE PERSON.
THEY SUPER-‐IMPOSE THEIR INDIVIDUAL EXPERIENCE ON TO AN AGENCY AND SOMETIMES THERAPY
AS A WHOLE …
How do we maximize
our powers to use for the
greater good?
By Harnessing What it Means to Be a Leader!

“In everXone’s life, at sometime, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankf/l for those people who rekindle the human spirit.”
~ Alber[ Schweitzer
Being a leader and lighting the way for ourselves and others starts in developing and maintaining specific habits.
Habit #1 ~ Self-‐Care :
You must secure your own mask before you
can assist other passengers!

What does self-care look like?
- Knowing your Limits & STAYING WITHIN THEM
- Setting a tone of respect and respecting yourself, teaches others how to treat you
- Move your body, feed yourself in a variety of ways
- Have people to talk to - Take your vacation days
Habit #2 ~ Education:
It gets harder to get bored and burnt out when you are a learner of life.
Take classes, go to trainings, read, GOOGLE - talk to others about what they are passionate about , tell others about what you are passionate about! This benefits both you and your clients ~
passion & enthusiasm are infectious!
Habit #3 ~ Be Clear & Deliver:
“Say what you mean, mean what you say” Are you able to take on a new client and do it
WELL? Do you need more time to finish a report?
Can you continue to take on more responsibility Are you saying “yes” when what you really mean is “no way!!!”

Habit #4 ~ Be Consistent: Trust is paramount in what we do – if you don’t show up, act consistent and
hold consistent goals, people don’t know what to expect of you. When others don’t know what to expect of you – they will not be consistent for
you, either. This goes for clients, co-workers, supervisors, family members and every relationship that we have.
What does consistency look like? 1.) Be yourself - easy advice that’s hard to
follow! 2.) Decide on your life-game rules, share
them, then always follow them. 3.) Tell others what you expect of them,
ask what they expect of you and check in often.
Consistency is having a clear goal and doing things daily to
meet the goal.

Habit #5 ~ Be Present: There will always be paperfork, but your client will not always
be with you. You never know when your last session with a client will be.
EverX client, EverX session – make them feel impor[ant, listen, and
always give 1 or 2 things for them to walk away with.
Habit #6 ~ Be Compassionate:
If you are present, but lack
compassion, what’s the point?
Beyond the basic needs of every
person is the need to feel heard,
understood and appreciated.

Habit #7 ~ Have a Personal Moko:
Never underestimate the power of words –
but words without actions are
meaningless.
Do the Next Right Thing
“The beginning of a habit is like an invisible thread, but every time we
repeat the act we strengthen the strand, add it to another filament until it becomes a great cable &
binds us irrevocably, thought & act.” ~ Orrison Swett Marden
