18th Annual Tree of Love 2013

A CELEBRATION OF LOVE AND REMEMBERANCE!

Since it's inception in 1996, the Hospice Friends "Tree of Love" has been a heal-ing and meaningful event for those who have lost a loved one. Whether it is a family member or friend, this has been the "gathering of remembrance" to honor those who have passed before us. Our thoughts turn to loved ones, both living and deceased, during this time of year. No wonder we set time aside to be grateful for the gifts of love and life. MEMORIALS & HONORARIUMS

A remittance envelope has been en-closed in this newsletter. Please consider making a donation to this organizations mission of peace, comfort and care. You may use the envelope to indicate the person or persons you wish to honor or remember with your contribution. All memorials and honorariums which are received on or before November 22nd will be listed in the programs especially designed for both the Ellensburg and Cle Elum gatherings.

When you donate $50.00 or more in any one person’s name you will receive a beautiful hand cast pewter ornament. Each ornament is unique and hand-crafted by Morgan House of Pewter in North Carolina. This year the ornament is a beautiful star embedded in an orna-ment circle. There are a limited number of ornaments available, so please send in your contribution early to assure that you receive one of these special gifts from Hospice Friends.

LUMINARY RECOGNITION Your donation of $25.00 includes a personalized luminary featuring the name of your designated memorial or honoree. Lighted luminaries have added to the tranquil ambience of the Tree of Love ceremonies for many years. Fol-lowing the event, your luminary will be available for you to take home and dis-play for the holidays.

Ornaments and receipts for donations will be available for pick up at each Tree of Love event and/or mailed following the event if you are unable to be present.

YOUR CHANCE TO PARTICIPATE Tree of Love is also the signature fund-raising event for Hospice Friends. As with any charitable organization it is es-sential for Hospice Friends to raise funds that are vital to continuing the mission of end-of-life care. Hospice Friends receives no federal or state fund-ing nor do we receive reimbursement from medical insurance providers. Our very existence is entirely dependent on the compassion and generosity of our donors. By sending your donation in memory of or in honor of a loved one, you help to ensure that Hospice Friends will have the resources to continue to provide services to those in need for years to come.

Every donation, regardless of the amount is received with gratitude, and all contributions received remain in Kit-titas County. In fact, that is the only "requirement" for receiving the services

This exis-tence of ours is as transient as autumn clouds. To watch the birth and death of beings is like look-ing at the movement of a dance. A lifetime is like a flash of lightening in the sky. Rushing by like a tor-rent down a steep mountain. Gautama Buddha

memory of or in honor of a loved one, you help to ensure that Hospice Friends will have the resources to con-tinue to provide services to those in need for years to come.

Every donation, regardless of the amount, is received with gratitude, and all contributions remain in Kittitas County. A "requirement" for receiving the services of Hospice Friends is that clients must reside in Kittitas County,

and there is NEVER a charge. All of our programs which provide paramedi-cal supplies, equipment, nutritional as-sistance, volunteer and bereavement support are all provided by our finan-cial supporters.

Please consider taking a moment out of your busy schedule and fill out the en-closed remittance envelope with a do-nation! There are SO many who count on your contribution!

Hospice Friends Chaplin Completes Grief Studies Certificate!

Hospice Friends Revised Website

Companioning the bereaved is not about assessing, analyzing, fixing or resolving another’s grief.

Instead, it is about being totally present to the mourner, even being a temporary guardian of ones soul.

As a bereavement caregiver, I am a companion, not a “guide”—which assumes a knowledge of another’s soul I cannot claim.

To companion our fellow humans means to watch and learn. Our awareness of the need to learn (as opposed to our tendency to play the expert) is the essence of true companioning. Dr. Alan D. Wolfelt

Hospice Friends Chaplain, Janine Yoder earned her "Death and Grief Studies" certificate recently. She completed 150 hours of training from the internation-ally recognized Center for Loss and Life Transition in Fort Collins, Colorado. Her course studies included five training seminars. The seminars included:

Comprehensive Bereavement Skills

Support Group Facilitator Understanding and Responding to

Complicated Mourning Exploring the Spiritual Dimen-

sions of Death, Grief and Mourn-ing

Suicide Grief: Companioning the Mourner

The courses were taught by Alan D. Wolfelt, Ph.D., a noted author, educator and grief counselor. Founded in 1983 by Dr. Wolfelt, the Center for Loss and Life Transition is a private organization

dedicated to furthering our understand-ing of grief.

Janine has been the Chaplin for Hospice Friends since 2010. She is facilitating two grief groups currently through De-cember. She is also planning a suicide survivors grief support group beginning sometime in March 2014. For registra-tion info call 962-7379.

The Hospice Friends Website re-ceived a revision this Fall giving us a lot more control over the content. The website was developed dur-ing the past few years and was controlled and updated by a third party and we had little control over changes. The Execu-tive Director, Jerry Findley had some background with web design so took over control of the site around mid Au-gust. Content now is very easy to update and change depending on what the up-coming events that are happening. We have three new "Events" pages highlighting our two big events Cruisin' for Hospice and Tree of Love as well as a page for Upper County events. We now have all of our previous Hospice Friends Newsletters available in PDF

format for easy downloads for anyone who is i n t e r e s t e d . Another nice addition is a page on testi-monies about how people have been affected by the services of Hospice Friends & Home Health and Hospice. We have also posted pictures and important contact information about the Hospice Friends staff under "Contacts."
