BackgroundHalifax is fortunate to have a well estab-lished inventory of accommodations,ranging from superior urban hotels toquaint seaside inns. Current inventoriesindicate there are 4,600 rooms availablein the community of the HRM.Approximately 3,500 of these rooms arein the heart of the downtown core, withalmost one-third of them convenientlyconnected by an enclosed pedway sys-tem to shopping, restaurants, the WorldTrade and Convention Centre andHalifax Metro Centre complex.

An additional 1,200 rooms are locatedwithin a three-kilometer suburban ringof the downtown core. New projects,currently under development, will pro-vide an additional 600 rooms. The totalinventory of rooms available far sur-passes any destination within theAtlantic Region. All of these operationsare full-service and boast a minimum

rating of three stars, in accordance withCanada Select rating guidelines for fixedroof accommodations.

Halifax also benefits from its destinationmarketing organization – DestinationHalifax. Amongst its list of services isthe ability to conduct a space availabilitysearch. With just one call, or by way ofan online request, space availability for arange of dates can be sourced throughall the accommodations and facilities inthe HRM. This complimentary, time-saving service provides HRM’s visitorswith convenient access to accommoda-tions information, as well as the abilityto book one or more rooms during asingle transaction.
