Who is the course for?
The course is aimed at trainees of all levels and newly qualifiedneurosurgeons, with a focus on improving the outcomes and surgicalexperience for the surgeon and patient.

Join us to find ways of avoiding andmanaging common and not-so-common neurosurgical complications. Youwill learn a range of tips and tricks to help you avoid pitfalls that can plaguea career.
Hear from experienced neurosurgeons on cranial and spinal complications,a patient, as well as experts on the psychological issues and the medico-legal aspects of complications.
The course is delivered via informal seminars and discussion groups, withample opportunities to discuss real-world complications with senior facultymembers.

Faculty
Mr George Spink
A Consultant Neurosurgeon at Hull and East Yorkshire NHS Trust, Mr Spinkspecialises in complex spinal surgery and has a modest medico-legalpractice. He is also an Honorary Senior Clinical Tutor for the Hull YorkMedical School.
Mr Thomas Carroll
Mr Carroll is a Consultant Neurosurgeon at Sheffield Teaching Hospital. Heis also the Deputy Clinical Director and specialises in skull-basedprocedures.
Professor Kevin Turner
Professor Turner is a Consultant Urological Surgeon in Bournemouth, aVisiting Professor at Bournemouth University and co-founder of theBournemouth Adverse Events Research Team. He and colleagues in thePsychology Department at the University undertook a national survey toinvestigate the impact of adverse events on surgeons and are currentlytrialling a work-based intervention to enhance psychological flexibility andresilience.
Professor Paul Marks
Professor Marks trained in neurosurgery and held consultant posts in NewZealand, Leeds and Harrogate. He read law at Cardiff Law School and hassince become Senior Coroner for the East Riding of Yorkshire and City ofKingston-Upon-Hull. He was the last medically qualified Coroner to beappointed to full time coronial jurisdiction. Professor Marks also teachesmedical law to surgeons and he is course director for the Legal Aspects ofSurgical Practice course run by the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

Mr Atul Tyagi
A Consultant Neurosurgeon at Leeds Teaching Hospital, Mr Tyagispecialises in spinal dysraphism, brain tumours, pituitary surgery andendoscopic approaches, craniocervical junction surgery and vascularneurosurgery.
Mr Vasileios Arzoglou
Mr Arzoglou is a Consultant Neurosurgeon at Hull Royal Infirmaryspecialising in minimal invasive spinal surgery. He undertook his higherspecialist training in complex spine, and also Orthopaedic complex spinaltraining as a senior fellow.
Mr Martin Drozda
A Consultant Neurosurgeon at Hull Royal Infirmary, Mr Drozda specialisesin complex spinal surgery, minimal-invasive spinalsurgery, intramural spinal tumour surgery and Chiarimalformation/syringomyelia surgery.

Hull is easily accessed by car - just two and a half hours from major citieslike Newcastle and Birmingham, less than two hours from Manchesterand less than an hour's drive from Leeds and Sheffield. The University isalso accessible by rail with direct trains from London in as little as two and ahalf hours. The campus is a short taxi or bus journey from the interchange.
