　日本には、多くの伝統工芸が残っていま

す。 しかし、単純に昔のままでは現代の生

活に活かされません。 技術や精神を受け

継ぎ、現代に伝え直すことが最も重要だと

考えています。 作り手だけでなく、販売を

する伝え手、それを使用する使い手ととも

に、日本に元来育まれた文化を「物」を通し

て見直すきっかけになればと思います。

続いてきたことの芯をぶらさずに、世の中

の変化に対応しながらしっかりと継承す

る。それが伝統です。 JIGUは100年後、こ

の芯が残っているように未来を想像しな

がら物をつくるプロジェクトです。

　Japanese｠traditional｠crafts｠are｠known｠

for｠its long history.｠However,｠using｠them｠

in｠modern｠life｠in｠its｠original｠form｠can｠be｠

a｠challenge.｠We｠believe,｠it｠is｠essential｠to｠

reinterpret the｠technique｠and｠philosophy｠

into｠the｠modern｠context ,｠wi thout｠

changing｠the｠essence｠of｠tradition.｠It｠is｠a｠

chance,｠not｠only｠for｠the｠maker,｠but｠the｠

seller｠and｠the｠user,｠to｠rediscover｠the｠

culture｠Japan｠has｠cult ivated.｠JIGU｠

imagines｠the｠next｠hundred｠years,｠and｠

creates｠products｠that｠will｠hopefully｠shape｠

a｠sustainable｠future｠of｠tradition.｠

　福岡県南部に位置する八女福島は、筑後地方独自の土

地の豊かさから久留米絣や手漉和紙、石灯籠など多くの

伝統工芸が残る町です。 その中でも八女福島仏壇は江戸

時代後期から約200年も続く工芸です。 仏壇本体の木

地・彫刻から、漆・金箔・蒔絵・金具などの装飾まで、異な

る専門技術を結集して6人の職人の手をリレーして仏壇

が作られます。 その技術と流れを応用し、木のカトラ

リーとお盆を制作しました。 このプロダクトを通して、

八女福島仏壇の技術や土地の文化、素材を知るきっかけ

になれば良いと考えています。

Yame city, located in the southern part of

Japan, is known for its many traditional crafts.

One of them are "butsudan", wooden Buddhist

altars for Japanese household, which has been

made in the area for almost two centuries. The

production is a collective art of six different

craf tsmen, such as wood carv ing, lacquer

painting, and gold gilding. Interpreting the

technique and context , we have created a

tableware series, which will hopefully stimulate

understanding of the production, history, and

culture of Yame's traditional butsudan craft.

The flat comb-like shape of the cutlery series is hand-carved by butsudan woodwork

craftsmen. The tray/plate series is inspired by the structure of butsudan cabinet doors,

designed to prevent warpage and reduce waste material at the same time. The coating is

done by butsudan craftsmen specialized in 'urushi' lacquer coating, an ancient natural

wood finish material known for its rich red and black color and texture.

基本のカタチ

　仏壇の木地師がカトラリーのカタチを担当します。 掃引体を輪切りしたようなフラットな形状を

しており、日本の櫛などを連想させます。 塗りは漆や金箔を手掛ける仕上げの職人が担当。 漆に関し

ては、本漆にこだわって仕上げています。 朱と黒の2つの色があり、漆本来の自然な色と光沢を楽しめ

ます。 お盆のカタチは、木材の反りを抑えつつ材料を無駄にしない仏壇の扉の構造から発想を得たも

のです。 使いやすいプレーンな形状でスタッキングも可能です。

木地 拭き漆

　素材は、硬くて木目の美しいケヤキ材。 塗装は食品衛生法に適合したガラス塗料を使用しています。 仏壇の木地職人の手仕事を、身近に感じてもらえるシリーズです。

　生漆を木地にすり込む、拭き漆という技法で、深みのある茶色に仕上げました。ヒノキ木地の感触も残しながら、漆本来の耐久性や強度もあるので、普段使いにぴったりです。

The deep brown, raw urushi lacquer is rubbed into the hinoki cypress wood, adding durable properties of urushi coating, making it ideal for everyday use.

　仏壇の技術には多彩な仕上げ方があります。 木地を活かしたクリアのもの、漆をすり込む技法の

拭き漆、美しい色と光沢を刷毛で仕上げていく本漆、日本の格式を感じさせる金箔の仕上げ。 場所

と用途に応じて、使い分けながら、同時に多彩な伝統技術を味わえます。 仏壇という宗教用具を作

る技術から、用途的には最も遠いところにありそうな軽食・デザート用のカトラリーが生まれ、楽し

い時間を演出することができれば嬉しいです。

The cutlery series allows you to enjoy the many coating techniques of the 'butsudan'

craft - the natural wood, "urushi" base coating, the authentic "urushi" top coating, and the

exquisite gold gilding. Match and choose for different scenes and table settings, from

漆：半仕上げ 漆と金箔

　重すぎず、軽すぎず、伝統的な本漆を半分だけ仕上げました。 朱と黒の２つの色があり、ぷっくりとした質感と光沢です。 日常でも、ちょっと特別な日でも使えます。

Not too heavy, not too light. The upper half is coated with layers of urushi lacquer, creating a rich glaze and texture in two color variations, red and black.

　本格的な本漆塗りです。 漆はとても優れた天然塗料で、水にも熱にも強く、キズも簡単にはつきません。 使うほどに透明感の増していく色と光沢を、長く味わってください。

Enjoy the classic, full coating of urushi lacquer, as the color and glaze deepens through the years. Urushi is relatively resis-tant to water, heat and scratches.

●直火・電子レンジ・オーブン・食器乾燥機等の使用は厳禁です。

●紫外線に弱いため、保管の際には直射日光を避けてください。

●洗う際には台所用中性洗剤で柔らかいスポンジで洗ってくだ

さい。●長時間、水につけておくと傷む可能性があります。●熱湯

をかける、冷蔵庫に入れるなど、急激な温度変化は木地の割れの

原因になります。●金箔仕様の製品はキズや擦れなどに注意し、

水分は柔らかい布で拭き取ってください。●万が一、割れやキズ

などが入った場合の塗り直しや修理も行っています。

*Do not use on direct heat, in microwave, oven or

dishwasher. *Keep away from direct sunlight when storing.

*Wash with soft sponge and neutral detergent. *Soaking in

water for a long period is not advisable. *Rapid temperature

change, such as hot water, or a refrigerator can cause cracks.

*For gold gilded products, take extra care for friction and

damages, and wipe with soft cloth after washing. *In case of

damage, maintenance and repair service is available.

　 JIGU is a product development project with a strong founda-

tion of locality. The triangular logo represents the three roles

involved, 1-the maker, 2-the planner, and 3-the seller, looking at

the direction of the user. Our aim is to think about the future of

our culture, people, land, industry and crafts together, and the

product is a medium, to catalyze further communication.

About JIGU project

JIGU

治具 加工や組立ての際、部品や工具の作業位置を指示・誘導す

るために用いる器具の総称。

A Japanese word derived from 'jig'. A device that holds and guides tools during manufacturing.

A co ined term, which consists of "local (地)" and "tool (具)", suggesting the affluent local resources.

地具 造語。土地には十分な文化や技術が備わっている。 そうい

う土地の文化的資産のこと。
