Thought of the week
"Celebrate what you’ve accomplished, but raise the bar a littlehigher each time you succeed."
Mia Hamm (retired professional soccer player, two-timeOlympic gold medallist, and two-time FIFA Women's WorldCup champion)
PRINCIPAL’S NEWSIn the last newsletter, I briefly outlinedGlenmore’s achievement in 2017NAPLAN. Diving deeper into the datareveals many good news stories about ourstudents’ achievement. It affirms theteaching practice we have implementedsince the start of 2013. Highlights include:
This week our tuckshop was awarded a four-star rating byQAST – the Queensland Association of School Tuckshops. Our tuckshop convenor, Julie Bradshaw, is justifiably proudof this achievement. Our tuckshop offers a great menu, convenient online ordering and is a wonderful asset for ourschool. Our menu certainly beats pre-packaged lunch bags

Mrs Lanyon, our Deputy Principal, is on long Service Leaveduring weeks 6, 7 and 8. Miss Nugent is Acting DeputyPrincipal this week and Mrs O’Farrell will be acting DeputyPrincipal weeks 7 and 8.
At the end of Week 2, I accompanied two of our seniorstudents to The Morning Bulletin office as part of the “OurPriceless Past” project. Our students spent the morningtalking with a senior member of our Rockhampton community, gathering wonderful stories which they will turned into a shortbiography. Keep an eye out for the special liftout in a futureedition of The Morning Bulletin which will feature our students’work.
A fortnight ago, four teams of students (two Year 5 teamsand 2 Year 6 teams) contested the 2017 Maths TeamChallenge at Glenmore High. The students “Smashed Maths”as they competed against other primary schools in themorning’s competition. During the second part of the day, students took part in extension activities in Maths. In one partof the competition, two of our Year 5 students – Prateek andDeclan – proved they were the top Year 5 students there, onlybettered by a single year 6 student. Now that is “SmashingMaths” and a fantastic achievement for Glenmore.
Have you “smashed” the Maths problem in our newsletter? A$5 tuckshop voucher is the prize for the first correct answer(with some working out shown) drawn each fortnight on Fridayparade.
The Glenmore Standards tree in the office foyer is literallycovered with leaves and gumnuts due to the number ofstudents meeting the five standards. Many students are nowworking toward the Level 3 award, which requires a furthersixteen weeks of being the best person they can be.
Attendance is one of our top priorities. The school-widetarget is 92%. Illness this term has had an impact onattendance. The school percentage for Term 3 is 89%. Years 3,4 and 6 are all over 90% for this term. We CAN do 92. Help usto achieve that target this term. Every Day Counts.

Winter Clothing:
This Winter has been quite mild. Mornings are cool, even chillyat times, but by lunch time the weather is quite warm. Therefore, it is very important that your child is able to change.Sweatshirts/jackets and tracksuit pants need to be taken off asit is not suitable for children to overheat.
Please discuss the need to take off warm clothing with yourchild/children and make sure your child’s name is on all piecesof clothing.
