16pc increase in budget for infrastructure developmentA Staff

MUSCAT The infrastructure development will get 16 per cent
increase in the Sultanates budgetfor 21!

Minister of (ational %conom) and*eput) Chairman of +inancial
Affairs and %nerg) ,esources Council# said that more emphasiswould
be laid on improving the e-isting roads# seaports and airports as
well as allocating
additional funds for new infrastructural pro.ects!
The minister said that the allocation for infrastructure
development would be /0 million rials!
These allocations are set to cover the spending on continuing as
well as on new developmentpro.ects listed in the Seventh +ive ear
lan 3264215 in various sectors# he said!
Mac'i said around million rials has been allocated to cover the
operational e-penses of new
pro.ects intended to be operated b) some ministries during 21!
These pro.ects are e-pectedcreate around 7# .ob opportunities!
This is in addition to the economic growth resulting from
operating such pro.ects# in terms of
increasing the private investment and the social development in
the regions that host thosepro.ects!
$e said that additional approbations for the road sector 31#888
million rials5# including additional
pro.ects previousl) mentioned in our statements of previous
)ears and the additional roadpro.ects of 2/ worth 827 million
rials! The) include implementation of the first phase
3&ar'a9
:udam Al Sahil5 road and the second phase 3Sohar port4;hatma
Malaha 5 of Al &atinah coastalroad spending 287 million rials#
pro.ects in wila)ats in response to the ,o)al *irectives of the
2/ ,o)al Tour spending 1/0 million rials for paving 1#2064'm
road!
Construction of roads and bridges of the first# second and third
phases in roob4roundabout 3Al &uraimi5 double4carriage road
318'm5 4 with studies andsupervision spending at 2 million
rials!
The construction of Ar.uut4Ash'hareet4Srfiet 3*hofar
"overnorate5 b) spending 2 million rials#the dual4carriagewa) ring
road from Ar?at4roundabout to ,issaut 42'm spending 2 millionrials
are also part of the plan!
There are additional approbations for port sector which costs
1#20 million rials for construction#
development and e-panding of Al *u=m ort 3Al :usta region5 with
an additional 8@@ millionrials# including port e-panding# marine
wor's# construction of the dr)4doc' and superstructure
with consultanc) services and supervision# he said!
Additional approbations for the housing sector amounting to 76
million rials for construction of2#2 houses for the pro.ect4hit of
coastal road in Al &atinah!
Mac'i said that there were additional approbations of @@2
million rials for the airports sector! An
amount of 70 million rials was approved in the previous budget
for the first phase of the civilwor's at Muscat international
airport which include the runwa)# roads# pathwa)s# )ard and the
supporting services!
The budget has also earmar'ed an amount of 6 million rials for
levelling# setting up andconstruction of drainage canals to reclaim
the Muscat nternational Airport soil! An amount of121 million rials
has been allocated for the implementation of the pro.ects of the
first pac'age
concerning the construction of four regional airports with
consultanc) studies for designing andsupervision in Sohar# Al *u=m#
,as Al $add and Adam!
There are separate additional approbations for town planning and
municipalities services sector!
An amount of 12 million rials has been allocated for the
proposed compensation as first phasefor the owners of the
properties affected b) the Al &atinah coastal road!
+or the removal of residues# pumping water pools and opening the
main and internal roads
affected b) the e-ceptional climatic conditions in Muscat# 10
million rials also been allocated!

An amount of eight million rials has been allocated to construct
around /#76 lighting polesand developing internal roads as per the
2/ ,o)al Tour pro.ects! +ive million rials will be spent
on the construction of a fence around the Br)- protectorate and
administrative control centres!
Ten million rials will be spent for reconstruction of par's and
afforestation affected b) theclimatic conditions in Muscat! (ine
million rials have been allocated for completion of the first
phase of ;hasab sewerage pro.ect and 21 million rials for
lighting and developing internal roadsin a number of wila)ats!
To support Al $afa area 3Salalah5 pro.ect# 11 million rials has
been earmar'ed! As per the
budgetar) allocation# 0 million rials will be spent on
construction of dual4carriage roads#internal roads and bridges at
*hofar "overnorate to facilitate smooth traffic!
