WE NEED TO GROW We live in an instant world of microwaves and drive-thru restaurants and a disposable society in which things quickly become obsolete, so today’s message is very strange. In all the readings today, and especially in the Gospel, we see transformation, but it is not something that happens overnight, nor does it take place without effort. We are met with parables of a patient and loving God who can see a positive outcome at the end and is willing to wait and nourish us and help us all get there. The sower’s seeds require a growth period and some careful sorting. To make the bread, one must knead it and wait patiently. In planting a mustard seed, something so tiny yields great results, but not until after completing a period of dormancy and waiting.

Good News!! I want to share some good news regarding our religious education classes that will begin in September. Fr. Joe and I spoke with the Superintendent of school district 33C, Mr. Craig Schoppe last week. Providing Covid cases remain stable, we will be able to move forward and have our R.E. classes on Wednesday evenings at Homer Jr. High. All students and adults will have to wear masks before entering the building and keep them on until you reach the car at dismissal. Classrooms we use, as well as common spaces will be cleaned and sanitized before we arrive, and again after we leave for the evening. Desks will be socially spaced in each classroom according to Illinois State Board of Education and IDPH standards. Catechists will have hand sanitizers to use during class. The school will work with us to keep a safe environment for all of us. Thank you to those of you who have already mailed in their family’s registration forms. It has been a while since forms were mailed out to families. If you need another, please let me know and I will mail one. Fr. Joe has asked us to continue to work from home as much as possible, so please know that I am always available. I do stop in the office a few days per week. We also will need catechists/teachers, classroom aides and front desk helpers this year. Remember....we are all Missionary Disciples because we are Baptized, so each of us can share our faith with our children on Wednesday evenings! Ponder...and pray......Jesus may be tapping you on the shoulder to pass on our faith with the youth of our parish family!! May God continue to bless you and your family members as God continues to bless Our Mother of Good Counsel's Parish Family!!

Weekday Masses have resumed We are happy to announce weekday Masses have resumed. At Our Mother of Good Counsel on Mon. Wed., and Fri. at 8 AM and St. Bernards on Tues. and Thurs. at 9 AM. Because Good Counsel's Reconciliation Room is too small to allow proper social distancing, Good Counsel parishioners are encouraged to go to Confession a St. Bernard where a special Reconciliation area has been created in the room behind the altar in order to allow for the required social distancing. Penitents may sit face-to-face or behind a screen. Confession every Saturday from 3 to 3:45 pm at STB.
