Major General Jackson was born in Fort Lewis, Washington. He graduated from San JoseState University, San Jose, CA, 1971. In 1973, he completed his MA (History) at San Jose
State.
In May 1975, he enlisted in the Marine Corps to attend Officer Candidate School. Upon
graduating from the Basic School in June 1976, he was assigned to 1st Battalion, 5th
Marines, 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton, CA. While there, he served as a Rifle and
Weapons Platoon Commander and Battalion Adjutant.
In June 1998, he graduated from the United States Army War College, Carlisle, PA. Upon
graduation from the War College, he was assigned as the Assistant Chief of Staff, G-7, I
Marine Expeditionary Force. He then served as the Commanding Officer, 1st MarineRegiment, 1st Marine Division. From August 2003 until March 2005, he served as the
Assistant Chief of Staff (G-5), First Marine Expeditionary Force and deployed in support of
Operation Iraqi Freedom II. From June 2005 to September 2007, he served as the Deputy
Commanding General, U.S. Marine Forces, Central Command. His last assignment prior to
assuming his current command was as the Director of Operations and Logistics, U.S. Africa
Command which was located in Stuttgart, Germany.
MajGen Jackson completed both the Amphibious Warfare School and the Marine Corps
Command and Staff College by correspondence.
