J. Russell Flowers began his career in the marinHe worked as a commercial airplane pilot for a Greenville, Mississippi with the understanding tthem in exchange for the opportunity to learn thHe worked there until 1962 when he, along withSecurity Barge Line, Inc.

In 1969, Mr. Flowers sold his interests in Securitformed Flowers Transportation, Inc. When he so1981, he had 18 towboats and 480 barges. Mr. F

Mr. Flowers has entered into various businessesrelated companies, including banking businesseback into the business he knows and loves.

River Bell Award:MR. PETER H. STEPHAICH

Peter H. Stephaich has served the industry for over 30 years in anumber of key roles. He is currently Chairman and CEO of BlueDanube Incorporated and Campbell Transportation Company, Inc.

Among the many roles he has held in industry stewardship positions,Mr. Stephaich has helped lead the American Waterways Operators,the National Waterways Foundation and the Waterways Council, Inc.He has served as Commissioner and Vice Chairman of the Port ofPittsburgh Commission and Chairman of the Allegheny Institute forPublic Policy.

Most recently, Mr. Stephaich has advocated on Capitol Hill for themodernization of Americas aging waterways infrastructure. He workswith congressional leaders, gives testimony and urges passage ofimportant legislation to remedy the problems with the current waterresource development approach.

A native of New York City, Mr. Stephaich earned his bachelors degreefrom Middlebury College and his M.B.A., with a major in nance, fromNew York University. Mr. Stephaich has lived and traveled extensivelyabroad and speaks ve languages. He has two daughters and currently

lives in Pittsburgh.
