Laws that Guide The DP• Guided by the Maharashtra Region

and Town Planning Act of 1966,

commonly known as the MR&TP

act

• The DP has to be revised minimum

every 20 years

• The last DP part was sanctioned in

the year 1994

• New DP will be enforced from 2014

and will be in force till 2034

• EOI date 26th June 2009

By Law you have only 60 days to

comment on DP!!

We want to make this process as

Public Participatory as

possible!!

Existing DP

• The Development Plan (Maps and a Report on the Development Plan)

• Development Control Regulations Commonly referred to as the DCRs

• Reservation Document giving the various reservations ward wise

Contents of the DP

What DP could have

• Layers of development control maps and regulations for various issues in the

city

• Proper zoning and sub-division plan

• Implementation Strategies for prescribed development in the DP

• Development Control Regulations for all layers of the city fabric

• Should not circumvent the development control guidelines by giving executive powers to

bureaucracy

•Area-wise implementation of the existing DP according to the MCGM is only 12%

•The current DP does only amenity provision however it has a broader implication on the nature of the development of the city

We want the city to be;

OPENThe development plan should be open providing for all classes of people

EQUITABLEprovide for equitable distribution in the allocation of resources and development

EFFICIENTdevelopment plan should make optimal use of resources

development plan should strive to make Mumbai
