    Topic: Geography of Egypt

    Objectives:1. Using the Smart board and assistance from the teacher, students will identify key cities and

    geographical features on a map of Ancient Egypt.

    2. Students will recognize the importance of the Nile River in Ancient Egyptian geography andhistory.

    State Content Standards:

    y 17.C.3a: Explain how human activity is affected by geographic features.y 17.C.3c: Analyze how the human processes influence settlement patterns including migration and

    population growth.

    Materials:y World History textbook: 86-87y Geography of Egypt worksheety Ancient Egypt blank mapy Computery Projectory Smart board

    Teachers goals:

    y To convey the importance of Ancient Egyptian geography and its impact on Ancient Egyptianhistory, with clear emphasis on the Nile River.

    8:10 Introduction of days plan:Teacher explains the schedule for the day, explaining the step-by-step process from the warm-up

    word to the review.

    8:11 Warm-up word:Geography - a science that deals with the description, distribution, and interaction of the diverse

    physical, biological, and cultural features of the earth's surface

    Warm-up word is presented on the projector. Students then help to define, give examples and

    synonyms of, and create a sentence with the word. The students record their word on the Warm-up word, which is provided to them each week.

    8:15 Introduction of Lesson:Teacher will verbally explain the objectives of the lesson and why the material is important forfuture learning activities.

    8:18 Lesson Instruction:Teacher will spend time to explain the geographic position of Ancient Egypt in regards toMesopotamia, an area that they have previous knowledge of.

    Teacher will thenuse the Smart board to bring up a projection of the blank Ancient Egypt map.Students will use the corresponding worksheet. The teacher will talk about the geography of the

    area while indicating the areas on the blank map for students to complete. While completing theworksheet, students will have the opportunity to come up to the Smart board and label differentgeographical features of the map.

    Once the blank map is completed, the teacher will group the students in voluntary pairs. From

    there, students will be assigned to read pages 86 and 87 of their textbook. As they read, students

    will be expected to answer the questions on the Geography of Egypt worksheet.8:30 Assessment/Checks for Understanding:

    After students return to their assigned seats, teacher will take the time to go through the worksheetone question at a time. While reviewing the worksheet, the teacher will also take the time toanswer any questions students might have about the content.

    8:53 Closure/Wrap-up/Review:Teacher will reiterate the significance of the geography of Ancient Egypt and its impact on theancient history of the region. Teacher will emphasize the importance geography has on history in

    much of the world.
