I have always been of opinion that a man who desires to get married should know either everything or nothing 152 x 212 cm diptych | Oil on canvas | 2017 | Alexandra Hon
Nature of Courtship is my take on modern day courtship and romantic relationships;
the tongue-in-cheek ironies to the tales as old as time, using peacocks – the ultimate
symbols of ostentatious courtship.
- Alexandra Hon
What’s in a name,That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet 152 x 106 cm | Oil on canvas | 2017 | Alexandra Hon
MY SPACE, MY PLAYGROUND
More often than not, a woman's personality is a reflection of her lifestyle. Details can be
scrutinized through a woman’s trait and habits being in the comfort of her own space.
The artist recreated the persona of each female characters and translated them into the lower,
the middle and the upper class of society to demonstrate similarity and disparity between them.
The portrayal of each figures may also be influenced by her own experience.
- Amy Nazira
The Collector 1 | 183 x 160 cm | Acrylic on canvas | 2017 | Nik Mohd Shazmie
The Collector - The Collector is a mixture of fantasy and reality which depicts Nik M Shazmie’s personal interpretation of a group of people who collects thing ranged from antiques collectors who fancies limited edition the Beatles record
to avid art collectors worldwide. He acknowledge that his interest spurred from a few American TV series such as Auction Hunters and Storage Wars. The background portray a confined space of the collector storage, hiding her most priceless treasure and possessions. The monstrous looking flying trap plants represents his deadliest catch so far, and it may be only a few of them is in the big storage. And the other plants in background are kept away for a few moment, waiting for them to grow and be ready for action for value appraisal.
Garden Of Pain | 183 x 160 cm | Acrylic on canvas | 2017 | Nik Mohd Shazmie
Garden of Pain - Garden of pain portrays a repetitive portrait of a male who looks up to the sky and waiting for what they have now to be over. ‘Beauty is Pain’, its a phrase we all have to know as beauty comes at a
really high cost, high risk and one have to endure the pain to look perfect. Nowadays, even men tends to look beautiful, going through endless amounts of plastic surgery to appear confident in public. Men may be way more extreme and different to women, because its really rare to hear a woman goes surgery to look like a man, but vice versa, countless. The pink cactus conveys pain. But when one really put oneself into what they love, they tend to see everything in a rose-tinted glass.
God Bless Vegan | 183 x 160 cm | Acrylic on canvas | 2017 | Nik Mohd Shazmie
God Bless the Vegan - The painting depicts two significant character, in a dominant green filter and wig, holding vegetables as they are supporting vegetarian life. But contrary to their belief, animals cruelty is one of the foremost reason why they
choose to practice vegan diet. However they wear animal skin products which can be seen as a support to the fur and skin industry for centuries. The red mirage-like surrounding the van is portrayed like a gaseous smell of blood which bothers the vegetarian people.
The Celebrity Artist | 183 x 160 cm | Acrylic on canvas | 2017 | Nik Mohd Shazmie
The Celebrity Artist - Depicts a significant main figure, roller skating through the highways without having to go through the torns and bushes at the background, a hanged paintings by the wall as a presentation and how relaxed he is while
smoking on cigar. This is today’s scenario where anyone can read through the webs or magazine like celebrity has a secret talent, and selling their pieces like its the hottest treasure anyone have to own. A lot of artists struggle to make themselves on the magazine cover and celebrating their masterpieces, and lot of them ended up to be a starving artists, but these celebrities just topped them with strong marketing without having to go through hard ways (metaphors to the torn and bushes road).
