Dear family,Who does not love a story where an underdog triumphs against all odds over a

stronger opponent. We love these stories because we get red of seeing favorism toward those with polical es,

wealth and privilege and a lack of opportunity for the “everyday guy or gal.” I believe we like these stories because what

we really want is jusce that is fair and leadership that is compassionate, not ranking people by what they possess or mistakes they have made. Chrisanity is certainly an underdog story where God empowered the “least of these” to be His

prophets, warriors, teachers and saints! Both the Old and New Testament portrays a God who cares li)le to nothing about

a person’s polical affiliaon or the wealth they have acquired. Choosing the underdog seems to be so fundamental to

God’s M.O. that He Himself becomes one of His creatures to redeem the universe. To modern ears the Gospel message is

sll hard to comprehend because “power” looks so different defined by God that we can hardly recognize it through our

modern lenses. In this weekend’s Gospel, Jesus speaks of the way of God comparable to a mustard seed which at first is so

small and insignificant but becomes a glorious sign of God’s majesty. That seed is us, dear family. Look beyond your own

insecuries and brokenness and ask to see yourself as God sees you, wonderful beyond compare! In His joy, Fr. Daniel
