Office 2007Changes At First Glance
11/13/07 J. Moone Center for Professional Development 2
When you first open Word 2007, Excel 2007, PowerPoint 2007, and Access 2007, you'll see a lot that's familiar, such as your Word document or Excel worksheet. But you'll also notice a new look at the top of the window.
The old look with menus and toolbars has been replaced by the Ribbon at the top of the window. The Ribbon contains tabs that you click to get to the commands you already know how to use. And once you learn how to use the Ribbon in one program, you'll find it easy to use in other programs.
The Microsoft Office Button image is new. This button takes the place of the File menu in several Office programs.
New keyboard shortcuts.
New file formats for Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access 2007.
The ability to save as a PDF document.
2007 - What are some of the new features?

The Ribbon
1. Tabs. There are six of them across the top. Each represents an activity area.
2. Groups. Each tab has several groups that show related items together.
3. Commands. A command can be anything from a button, a drop-down list, or a box to enter information.
The Ribbon has three basic components:

Button name changes to the Program you’re using.
Click the Microsoft Office Button in the upper-left corner of the program window to get the same basic commands as before to open, save, save as, and print your documents.
Click the Options command button (name changes to the program you’re using) at the bottom of the menu and you'll also find the program settings that control things like your preferences for correcting spelling, which used to be found on the Tools menu, under Options.
