Spanish Composers and the Influence of Traditional Music Suite Compostelana Frederic Mompou Prelude 4 mins Suite Compostelana is Mompou’s only work of for solo guitar. This colorful suite incorporates traditional Spanish guitar sounds and modes, as well as a twentieth century harmonic sensibility. Songs and Dances Frederic Mompou No 7 arr. Maria Camahort No 8 8 mins Suite for cello and guitar Feliu Gasull Bosc 7 mins Dits F.Gasull (1959-), guitarist and composer, masters the complexities of contemporary music and variety of Spanish folk idioms, included flamenco. His Suite per cello i guitarra is drawn from his previous work Cancons per bariton i guitarra, a collection of songs which take their lyrics from the poetry of the Catalan writer G.Ferrater. Homenaje Pour le Tombeau de Debussy Manuel de Falla 3 mins Homenaje Pour le Tombeau de Claude Debussy is Falla’s only composition for solo guitar, dedicated to the memory of Claude Debussy. At the end of this brief work in the rhythm of a slow habanera, Falla briefly quotes Debussy's piano work "Soirée dans Grenade", honouring Debussy and the city of Granada, where Falla composed the piece. 3 mins Six Spanish Popular Songs Manuel de Falla Arr. Maria Camahort 15 mins Seis Canciones Populares feature songs from different regions of Spain, and while the texts are authentic folk material, the melodies are often varied and the accompaniment treated even more freely, in the "Impressionist" style of the time.

The Performer Born in Castello de la Plana, Spain, Maria Camahort began playing the guitar at the age of nine. She completed her undergraduate studies in Classical Performance in ESMUC, Barcelona, with Zoran Dukic, Alex Garrobe, Feliu Gasull (chamber music) and Emilio Molina (improvisation). In July 2010 she completed (with Distinction) her Master's Degree at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, with Robert Brightmore (classical guitar), David Dolan (chamber and improvisation) and John Parricelli (jazz guitar). After finishing her Master's, Maria was granted the Guildhall Artists Fellowship. As a performer, Maria is particularly interested int he field of chamber music, specifically creative and collaborative perfmances, being involved in many different projects such as Quartet Galiu, The Voice of Strings, Tango Magnetic, Farsa Moneda, the L5Y, Maria Camahort & Jamie McCredie and many different duets with guitar, cello, voie, iolin, double bass etc. Maria Camahort has also created and directed her own artistic projects, such as "Guitar and Poetry", "Spanish Composers; the influence of the Traditional Music" and the UK Premiere of Gasull's compositions. Since 2005, Maria has performed in concert halls of many different cities, such as Barcelona, Madrid, Saint Petesburg, Warsaw, Cracow, Sevilla and Valencia. In London, she has performed in venues such as Bolivar Hall, St Luke's, The Forge, Ronnie Scott's, Silk Street Theatre, Bishopsgate Institute and Barbican Centre.

St Martin-in-the-Fields has welcomed talented musicians to this central London platform for over 60 years - from highly acclaimed young soloists, to choirs from all over the world; from promising new ensembles, to established professionals. This tradition is supported by the generosity of our performers as well as our audiences. Whilst these concerts are free to all, for those able to give, a suggested donation of £3.50 would be greatly appreciated to help fund all aspects of the work at St Martin’s.
