BACKGROUND Council’s Animal Management Plan allows for the management and control of dogs throughout the district. Council’s current plan allows for Council to designate parks as dog on leash parks and also dog free parks. • Laratinga Wetlands is a dogs on leash area • Mt Barker/Laratinga Linear Trail is a dogs on leash area • Dogs are prohibited from the playing surfaces of the various sporting venues throughout our district that provide for competitive sport and where high levels of maintenance of the sporting surface is required • Dogs are to be on leash at the oval surrounds at the various sporting venues throughout our district • Dogs are prohibited from Council owned golf courses • The area adjacent to Keith Stephenson Park is available for dog owners to exercise their dogs off leash Environmental The ownership of a dog is an important life-style decision for many people. The proper management and control of dogs will ensure harmony and an appropriate level of interaction between the general community and animal owners. Social Dogs provide companionship and enjoyment for many in the community, however, both dog owners and non dog owners have expectations that Council will provide opportunity for them to access Council facilities in a harmonious and balanced way.
