YEAR 4 VISIT THE SCIENCE MUSEUM

On Friday 14 October, Year 4 went on a visit to the Science Museum. We went on the tube and it was very busy, we were very squashed. Then we went on another train and we just had a little bit of space. When we got off the train it was a short walk to the museum. Then we went I the museum, we put our coats and lunches in the trolly. After that we went in the space room and we saw Neil Armstrong. Then we went to the vehicles room and we saw loads of airplanes, rockets and cars.

We would also like to thank all of our parents for helping out on the trip.

Make the 'Right Click' for Online Safety Experts from BT and Unicef are coming to school on Thursday 3 November to deliver a special workshop called ‘The Right Click’ for the families of children in Years 5 and 6. The workshop brings together UNICEF UK’s child rights expertise with BT’s technological know-how around internet safety, to give the information families need to navigate the risks and embrace the benefits technology brings. Places on this workshop are now fully booked, but it is going to be filmed for a brand new online TV channel being launched by First News. There will be a full report in our next edition; meanwhile families can get online safety advice you can trust by going to the school website, and following the menu links to School Information > Pupil Safety.> Online Safety.

Recently Year 5 children went to the British Library and we got on a train to Euston. It took a while to get there. When we got there we split up into groups, then had a tour around the Library. We went to the Treasure Room; there was a big globe in the middle of the room and lots more fascinating treasures to be discovered. The Library also has a big tower of books, called the King’s Library. We had to guess how many books were in the big tower. After lunch we went to the workshop. We talked about how many books are in the library. There are over 150 million books, with over 2000 books on display. Other books can be read with a reader’s pass. Next to the world’s biggest atlas is a map room which is fun!!

Harris, 5 Earth We would also like to say a big thanks to our parent volunteers for their help on the trip.

Teachers are on duty before and after school. Harrow police are taking preventative measures to reduce the risk. YEARS 4 AND 6 FESTIVAL ASSEMBLIES

On Friday 7th October, we were treated to an outstanding performance by the Year 4 children. They taught us all about the celebration, Eid. They created an excellent power-point with lots of pictures and performed on stage, wearing vibrant clothes. We learnt all about the customs and celebrations during the festival and learnt why it is so important to Muslim people. The whole assembly was impeccable!

DIWALI ASSEMBLY

I enjoyed when they did dancing to Indian music. I think the sweets were exciting when they showed everybody. I also liked when they held up the rangoli patterns.

Matilda, 3 Shark I liked the assembly when I saw the designs. It was colourful and I enjoyed it. I liked how they acted the Diwali story.

At Marlborough Primary School we want to make sure that no child or adult in our local community of the Borough of Harrow is forced to go hungry, and that is why we have chosen foodbanks as our local charity to support in November. Please join us in supporting the work of the foodbanks and ensuring that no-one goes hungry in Harrow by donating food to our donation table. If every child brought in just one thing, we would have over 710 items to donate to Harrow foodbanks! Donations can be brought into school every day throughout November. The shopping list below provides information as to the type of food the foodbanks need. Shopping List

FOOTBALL SUCCESS! On Saturday 14th October 2016 Marlborough football team represented the school in the Barnet FC Cup. The team travelled to the Hive (Barnet FC) and played matches against other Harrow schools. The children played really well as a team, and achieved second place winning the silver medal. We would to thank all of the children and parents that came along to support us on Saturday.

GOODBYE & GOOD LUCK… Sadly this half term we will be saying goodbye to some of our team here at Marlborough. We

are sure you would like to join with us in wishing them all the best.

Ron Kirtley – Year 4 Class Teacher I have been here at Marlborough for ten years and am very sad to leave all of the wonderful children and staff behind as I move on to pursue other interests. Everyone at Marlborough will be sorely missed. Tina Pengelly – Attendance and Welfare Officer After working at Marlborough for 12 years I have decided to move on. I really want to do something quite different, perhaps outdoors and not in an office. When I started working here my children were in Years 3 and 1, now my daughter is at University and my son will be taking his A’Levels next summer, so they really don’t need their mum around for the school holidays anymore! Marlborough has been a large part of my life and I will be sad to go, but I’m excited to be looking ahead to new experiences and challenges. I wish all the staff, the children and their parents and carers good health, happiness and great success for the future. Sara Berhane – SMSA I have worked as a midday supervisor for four and a half years at Marlborough and my three children all attended the school. During my time at the school I have had many wonderful experiences with the children and staff. The staff have always been kind and helpful, and the children well behaved and very friendly. I have been very lucky to work with such a wonderful team!
