Dear Nobles, September was once again a busy one for Za-Ga-Zig. Thefishing trip to Cass Lake was a great time to catch a few fishand enjoy the company of brother Nobles and friends in north-ern Minnesota. We also had our Golf Cart Appreciation Din-ner, and I’d like to add a huge THANK YOU to all of you whodrove the carts and helped to make the 2018 fundraising ef-fort a great success! The Potentate’s trip to Scotland was an amazing time withgreat sites to see and some unusual sites to take in. We vis-ited several Masonic sites like Kilwinning Masonic Lodge #0,the oldest Masonic Lodge in the world, the Grand Lodge ofScotland in Edinburgh, Scotland which was established in 1736and traces the connection between the craft of stonemasonryand modern freemasonry from the oldest Masonic writtenrecords in the world. We also were able to take in RosslynChapel which has a rich history that also embraces masonry. We also helped at the Grand Master’s meetings on Septem-ber 19-21 along with the three other Shrine Temples in Iowato help promote the Shrine to Iowa Masons. Our hard work ispaying dividends, in fact, there’s even an indication that in2019 we will have a “one day class” for Masons. October 5 the Ambassadors will hold their Spaghetti Din-ner at the Temple,October 7 the Zig Zaggers will hold theirOmelet Breakfast at the Temple , October 13th marks our FallCeremonial and the second “Hot Sands” of the year. JerryHoffman is the Fall Ceremonial Honoree. We will also behaving the Ladies Auxiliary Chicken Noodle Dinner the nightbefore on the 12th at the Temple., with the Zag Trax PancakeBreakfast on the 21st. On the 27th the Divan will be doing theShrine Kid’s Halloween Party. On the 28th our Sept./Oct. Birth-day Dinner will be held to round out the month. Don’t forget Nov. 18th. This will be our 4th AnnualOutdoorsman’s Guns and Gear Raffle held at the Temple from11:30 a.m. until we are done. Don’t miss out on this greatfundraiser and support the Temple for 2018! We will have agreat meal and two free drinks included with the purchase ofyour $20.00 ticket! In addition, on the day of the event, wewill have several added raffles and drawings to add to thefun. Thank you all for working to make 2018 a great year forgrowth.
Fraternally yours,E. Jay Coon, Potentate

Pictured L to R: Joe Lamb, Wes Redhead (seated) Keith Rhodes,Merrill Harrington and E. Jay Coon Potentate At the September 4th Nobility Meeting the Legion of Honorpresented Wes Redhead with a certificate for his 25 plus yearsof service to the LOH. Also a Quilt of Honor was presented tohim by Pat Burch from the Norwalk Easter Star. They makethe quilts and have distributed more than 100 quilts. Wesley Redhead is a 25 plus year member of the Legion ofHonor and a Navy veteran of WW II. He is currently an honor-ary member due to his inability to participate in our activities. He is a Past Master of Union Park Masonic Lodge. Wes servedin the Navy in WW II and was assigned to the destroyer USSDewey. His ship, along with three other destroyers, was hit bya typhoon in the south Pacific. Three ships capsized and nearly800 sailors died. The ship on which Wes served was nearlycapsized, but miraculously righted and the 300 sailors on boardsurvived the disaster. Many of these sailors, along with survi-vors of Pearl Harbor have held annual reunions for years. It isbelieved that Wes is the only remaining survivor of this trag-edy. The LOH welcomed a new member, Ray Sprague, at ourmonthly meeting on September 6th. Ray is an Army veteran.Welcome to the unit Ray.
Legion of HonorMerrill Harrington, Commander
Since our last article the Legion of Honor has presented col-ors ahead of the ZA GA ZIG units at the Dexter Parade. It wasthe city’s 150th celebration. It was good to see so many unitsand the Potentate and Divan members at the parade. It was afun time. Members of the Legion of Honor drove golf carts, several timesagain, at the State fair this year. Our hats are off to the manynobles that organize and run the golf carts each year. You do afantastic job each year.

Food for thought for allNobles: We should all be a di-vine work in progress - con-tinually learning and growing. In the process of becoming allthat we can be, we make mis-takes; yet when we know bet-ter, we do better. Nobles, aswe connect to our divine na-ture, we should surrendernegativity and perspectivesthat do not serve our highestgood. Any self-limitingthoughts that we may haveshould dissipate, and weshould see ourselves as who wetruly are. From this perspec-tive, we should recognize thewholeness within ourselvesand all others. The Septemver 19th LadiesNite Dinber consisted ofGrilled Iowa Chops, BakedBeans and all the trimmingsand was hosted by Dan Bakerand Lady Deb. Once again, wehad a good crowd. Lady Deband I would like to extend aspecial “Thank You” to all whoattended. We really appreci-ate it. The October 17th LadiesNite Dinner will be a Fish Fryhosted by Noble LarryWilkening and family. This isalways a great feed. Pleaseplan to attend. The November 21st LadiesNite Dinner will consist ofRoasted Pork Loin and will behosted by Nobles CollinBuckingham, Iver Oppedahland Roger Wilson. This is al-ways a great feed that we lookforward to with anticipationevery year. Please plan to at-tend. If you have missed out, markyour calendar for the 3rdWednesday of every month in2018! You will not go awayhungary or dissatisfied. The Fez-b Shrine Club wouldlike to thank those Nobles whoparticipated in Boone’sPufferbilly Days Parade andcame to the Herman Park Pa-vilion for refreshment after-ward. Your attendance is trulyappreciated not only by us butby the commuinty as well. There are a lot of great activi-ties coming up in the near fu-
ture. Don’t forget the Gunsand Gear Raffle on November18th. This event has a hugepotential for Za-Ga-Zig and weneed everyone’s support. Please take a close look at yourFeetprints magazine everymonth and pick out at leastone function that you will at-tend that month. Circus CommitteeSteve Green, P.P., Circus Chairman
Nobles, the 2019 Circus preparation is in full swing. I am assuming that all the circus packets are in your hands, if not pleasecheck with the Shrine Office. As always, your participation on selling ads is a crucial asset to the offset of the cost of our books.THANK YOU in advance. We have a few changes in this year’s circus hoping that we have the best of all Circuses. First off, wehave hired a new Circus, it is the Royal Hanneford Circus, it is an American-based touring family circus, and they date back to1807. (NO MORE Johnny Rocket). Your Shrine Clowns will be able to perform 2 skits also. The coloring contest info andmaterial should be at the next Nobility meeting. Here’s the new policy which is GOOD for you Nobles. When you get your 8 ticketsin the mail, WE need for you to buy them as before. This is one of the best ways that YOU can support YOUR circus of course. Buthere’s the new policy for you, if you need more tickets, after your original ones have been paid for. YOU may buy more tickets fromthe office at the same member’s discount. SO, buy all your tickets. Support YOUR Shrine, so your Shrine will be there for you inthe future.

Nobles if you use the Temple Kitchen, please remember to cleanup and put it back into as good or better condition than whenyou found it. It’s come to our attention that the new Grill in theKitchen has been left not cleaned up. This causes the Chief Aid,or the next Group to have to clean up, before they can start tocook. Please respect your brothers and make the work lighterfor the next guy! Fraternally, The Potentate
