Clarity and precision are ofteninterdependent. Clarity is achievedwhen the writer has communicatedmeaningfully to the reader. Precisionis achieved when the writer attainsexact correspondence between thematter to be communicated andwritten expression. Faults in clarity
and precision result when thefollowing occur....
What happens when the source(person) tries to establishcommonness of experience withthe receiver? First, the sourceencodes the message he wants tocommunicate. The message isthen sent to the receiver. Thereceiver gets the message and candecode it only within the
framework of his knowledge of thesubject and his personalexperience.
What kinds of things must writers learn tobecome effective and efficientcommunicators? Writers shouldunderstand the situation, uses, andaudiences for a given communication andwrite for those audiences and uses. Alsothey should have clear organisation andlogical reasoning; they should write clearand concise sentences; and that theyshould follow the standard conventions forgrammar, punctuation, and othermechanics. In other words, writers should
produce sentences that readers can easilyunderstand, and they should place thosesentences in context of paragraphs andlarger.

SPE Operations Positioned for the Future
First, support functions are delegated toFinance and Administration. This changewas a major step toward more efficientand cost-effective operations. Too manypeople were gathering materials from avariety of locations to send some-where,trying to find the most cost-effective way tosend them. By consolidating this
responsibility into a single area, we shouldsee significant improvements in efficiencyand expenditures.
SPE Operations Positioned for the Future
Third, activities to stimulate existingrevenue streams and generate new onesare assigned to the Enterprises Group. This group includes a strong marketingand research element. Promotion ofSPE programs previously was done on alargely fragmented basis, by staff withoutsufficient training, and resources. A goodmarketing effort is important not only to letmembers know about what programs areavailable, but also to maximize income
from revenue-generating activities tosupport other programs. The researchelement was considered especially criticalto help SPE focus on what members need.
