Let’s meet the Master Mentors

Professor Sidharth Mishra is a leading newspaper columnist and TV Panelist of Longstanding and presently working as Professor-Chairperson, VSJMC, IP University, New Delhi. He studied at Prince of Wales Royal (Now Rashtriya) Indian Military College, Dehradun and Kirori Mal College of New Delhi. Completing his master’s degree in English from Delhi University, he started his career in journalism in 1992. He later completed a master degree in public administration. Presently he is Adjunct Professor-Chairperson, Media Studies, Vivekananda Institute of Professional Studies (IP University), New Delhi. Prior to this assignment he was Consulting Editor, Millennium Post, where he was part of the launch of the paper in 2012 in New Delhi and continued his association till 2017.

Sumit Pande In his two-decades long career Sumit has travelled from being a television reporter in the field to heading the political bureau of one of the most prestigious news channels. With a deep understanding of the changing media scenario, Sumit crossed-over to the digital platform and till recently as the Associate Executive Editor he headed the political/general news bureau at News18.com. The job profile included managing news content and its flow from the input side. He guided journalists in the bureau on content generation and presentation. News management notwithstanding, he continues to report from the field. He has been a Journalist Fellow at the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism (RISJ), University of Oxford, 15-16.

Nitya Thirumalai is a digital journalist and news producer with 10+ years of experience in both digital and print newsrooms. With production as her forte, she has worked with India Today Digital, The New Indian Express, Hindustan Times, News18.com and India Ahead Digital. She was one of only two Indian journalists picked for the inaugural edition of the Google News Initiative-Columbia Journalism School Fellowship in 2019-2020. She did political science honours from Kamala Nehru College, Delhi University. After this, she did her masters in Mass Communication (Journalism) from Symbiosis institute of media and communication. She is currently News Editor at India Ahead Digital.

Commander (IN) Deepak Adhar was a pilot in the Fleet Air Arm of the Indian Navy and held a variety of operational, staff and command appointments in a career spanning over two decades. As Deputy Director Naval Training at the IHQ of the Ministry of Defence (Navy) he was responsible for policy making of interdisciplinary Maritime Training. He thereafter commanded the pioneer airborne Maritime Reconnaissance Training Squadron of the country. During stint as Joint Director Naval Air Staff (Aviation Organisation and Training) at the Ministry of Defence, he discharged the Corporate HR function for the Indian Navy’s Aviation Force with specific focus on Manpower Planning, Training and Organisation structuring.

Saumya Tyagi an independent media professional with hands-on experience in all aspects of video and film production. He has both studied and worked with video in its various forms including short films, educational content, music videos, documentaries, TVCs as well as other web based content. He is also a Journalism graduate and has worked as a copy editor and an occasional freelance writer.

Bijju Varghese is a perfectionist who expects nothing less from his team. He completed his MBA with specialization in marketing from Symbiosis, Mumbai. Sanjeev K Ahuja owns over two decades of hardcore journalism experience in mainstream media, and worked with India’s topnotch National English Dailies like Hindustan Times, where he was in leadership roles like Bureau Chief and Senior Assistant Editor during his 13-year stint with news 18. He figures in numerous news stories as an expert commentator in newspapers like The New York Times and other Indian platforms.

Abhishek Anand has more than 15 years of experience in Journalism, Corporate Communications and Public Relations put together. He started his career with Pioneer newspaper and subsequently worked with publications like Finance Express and Mint. Subsequently, he switched to the other side of the table and worked with leading PR firms as well as corporate houses, which provided him a 360 view of the communication industry. Abhishek has also successfully handled political campaigns of some of the leading political figures, which has enhanced his understanding of socio-political issues.

Ashwini Kumar Sharma has more than a decade of experience in journalism (with highly reputed media names such as Hindustan Times’ Mint newspaper and Outlook Money magazine), which gives him an unparalleled view of all media platforms. Time spent in the field of wealth management and financial planning gives him the advantage of experience in the business side. Ashwini has the unique background of having seen the business of finance from all angles. A BBA from Birla Institute of Technology (BIT), Mesra, Ranchi and PG Diploma in Management of Business Finance from Indian Institute of Finance, Delhi adds strength to his technical know-how.

ADMISSIONS

WHAT IS VIMCAT?

VIMCAT is the combined admission test for PGD2C3 (Post Graduate Diploma in Digital Content Creation and Communication) and the four certificate programmes run by VIMC, which focusses on enhancing skills of in-dividuals for a successful career in the field of mass communication in the post-Covid world. VIMC functions under the aegis of Strength India Education Society, who also runs prestigious institutions like VIPS and DSB.

WHAT WILL BE THE ELIGIBILITY OF VIMCAT 2021?

Graduate in any discipline for PGD2C3; anybody with an aptitude for mass communication forcertificate programmes • For Indian Participants - Graduates (10+2+3) from a recognized university (UGC/AICTE/ DEC/AIU/State Government) in any discipline can register for VIMCAT. • For International Participants - Graduation or equivalent degree from any recognized University or Institution in their respective country can register for VIMCAT.

VIMCAT 2021 REGISTRATIONS

VIMC will conduct its own admission test - VIMCAT for the candidates who apply to VIMC admission 2021 for PGD2C3 on the basis of VIMCAT scores. VIMCAT is a Pen Based Test (PBT*). The test is conducted once in a year for selection of candidates for the PGD2C3 and the four certificate courses namely:1. Certificate Programme in Corporate Communication, Public Relations & Writing Skills for Digital Platforms (CPCCPRWSDP)2. Certificate Programme in Event Management (CPEM)3. Certificate Programme in Digital Proficiency & Data Analysis (CPDP&DA)4. Certificate Programme in Film Making for Digital Platforms (CPFMDP)

Candidates appearing in the tests and qualifying will have the opportunity of getting into VIMC.

VIMCAT Registration is about to be open on 30th July, 2021. Last date to apply for VIMCAT isAug 30, 2021. Candidates will have to apply online at (www.vimc.in). VIMCAT is a Pen*based exam and will be held on Sept 12, 2021.

VIMCAT 2021 EXAM PATTERN?

VIMC Admission through VIMCAT comprises of 500 marks in total, out of which 1. 200 marks comprises of Section 1 and Section 2 (i.e. 100 marks each respectively.) • Section 1 (General Awareness Paper) • Section 2 (Language Proficiency) 2. 300 marks for GD/PI [Group discussion (GD) & Personal Interview (PI)]

VIMCAT is divided in to two sections:• Section 1 (General Awareness Paper) comprises of the following: a) It is an objective based exam. (MCQ based) b) Comprises of 25 questions for 100 Marks. (Choice based) c) Time duration of the exam will be an Hour (60 Minutes) d) The Paper is based on I. Current Affairs II. Class 12 level General Studies and General Science• Section 2 (Language Proficiency) comprises of the following: a) A descriptive paper to check writing skills b) Comprises of 2 questions for 100 marks (choice based) c) Time duration of the exam will be an Hour (60 Minutes) d) The Paper is based on essays writing from current affairs/culture/cinema/politics and society.

VIMC Selection Process: Components & Weightages, GD-PI Process, Final Merit List

VIMC will conduct final selection process for admission in 2021 from September 12 to September 28, 2021 in Delhi. Read below the key components, steps and weightages awarded in VIMC Selection process.

The selection process for PGD2C3 and other certification programmes 2021-22 batch at VIMCinvolves two steps:

Step-I: Appear in VIMC Admission Test (VIMCAT): All candidates who have applied forVIMC Admission 2021 need to appear in Pen based VIMCAT exam. They are assessed onVIMCAT score, which consists of 2 sections: General Awareness and Language Proficiency.

Step-II: Appear in GD & PI: All the candidates shortlisted on the basis of their performance inVIMCAT shall appear for both GD & PI at designated centre on designated dates

Preparation of Merit List: All those candidates who appear in GD & PI, and fulfil the followingconditions will be considered for the merit list: • Majority recommendation by all the panel members of PI. • At least 130 or more on a 200-point scale in GD • At least 210 or more on a 300-point scale in PI
