E6 strategy for the future (1)

E6 - from the stove pipe production approach to the production of integrated Transport Statistics

Transport statistics a supporting vector for economy and trade policy requests for statistics were satisfied with individual

legal processes + two voluntary data collections recently, Transport statistics is needed to combat or limit

the undesirable impacts of growing mobility of passengers and goods: on safety, on congestion, on the environment

Page 14: 1 Eurostat Work Programme UNECE WP6 14-16 May 2012

E6 strategy for the future (2)

Historical evolution Modal split indicators [01/2004] First attempt to produce Intermodal data [02/2004] TRIS 1 [04/2007] - re-engineering of the production processes TRIS 2 [07/2009] - creation of a cooperative validation environment with

member countries 2009

Eurostat’ vision Emerging policy needs

Emissions in the Transport sector [11/2009] Transport safety [01/2010] Intermodal - second attempt [01/2010]

15

E6 strategy for the future (3) The future

Transport safety - re-using data collected by DG MOVE, ERA, EMSA and EASA

Intermodal transport statistics and logistics performance indicators

Road traffic measurement, hence emissions from the road sector,

Maritime vessels central database, hence emissions from the maritime sector (in collaboration with EMSA)

Evolution of TRIS Passenger mobility statistics, exploiting modern technologies

(GPS, GSM) Further simplifications and harmonisation

• Legislative• Use of “e” administrative sources• Harmonisation of definitions
