In what ways does your film use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

• “Searching Fate” uses conventions of real media products asthe film reflects on our chosen genre, Teenage Drama.

• As a group our aim was to represent stereotypical not only

teenagers, but “gangsters” in today’s society.

•The setting and props we used in our film help to identify the

genre as we chose similar features from real media products, following the stereotypical views of teenagers today.

• The music used, “Tinnie Tempah – Tears” is a typical song for

this genre and therefore develops conventions of real media

products.

• “Searching Fate” develops real media productions as we

focused on things which we found in other teenage dramas andtook on board.

• It can be said we challenged the conventions of real media

products as we did not have any violence in our film as usually

in teenage dramas based in a school building always have

violence involved.

How does your filmrepresent particular social groups?• “Searc

hing Fate” represents a particular social group – “Teenage

Gangsters” however these gangsters are girls.

• We succeeded in this by the script we used, the way we made our main

character act and the props our main character wore.

• Our script represented our social group as we included dialect which

matched the group of teenage girls as this would help bring a feeling of

unity amongst the social group and shared identity. Our aim was also to

allow this script to relate to our audience and therefore we matched the

speech patterns to that specific social group.

• Our main character represented our social group through her body

language, as the camera follows her into the school you can easily tell

what type of character role she plays.

• Our setting and mise-en-scene we used represents our social group as

it is filmed in a girls school and shows that they are still young teenagers.

We also included a range of different races in our film.

• Our chosen music, Tinnie Tempah – “Tears” represents our social

group as it is from a Hip-Hop/RnB genre and therefore represents the

teenage girls.

• We included a Teacher role in our film. This represented our particular

social group as their attitudes towards the teacher were shown through

the body language and dialect used.

What kind of media institutionsmight distribute your film and why?

•Financiers – As our film is based in a London environment, we

feel The UK Film Council would most likely finance our film. It is

the best financier for our film as they consider all aspects in a

film, “… ensuring that the economic, cultural and

educational aspects of film are effectively represented…”

•Producers – As our film is British, it will most likely be

produced by Working Title, as they are a British Production.

•Distributors – A British based company would be the bestdistributors for our film. The UK Film Council would distribute

our film not just in the UK but also world wide, allowing people

elsewhere to have an insight into Teenage lives in the UK.

•Exhibitors – “Searching Fate” would most probably be shown

in mainstream cinemas such as Cineworld, Odeon and

Omniplex.

•Retailers – “Searching Fate” will be able to be brought into

high street entertainment stores such as HMV and Virgin.

•Regulators – After looking at the BBFC ratings of films, they

would give our film a 15 certificate. “Searching Fate” comes

under most of the guidelines included on the BBFC website andtherefore is aimed at a teenage audience starting from the age

Who would be the audiencefor your media product?

• “Searching Fate” is aimed at a teenage audience.

• Our age range is 15-18, as this age group are teenagers and

therefore it is easy for them to relate to the film.

• Therefore, our set target audience was 15-18 year old

teenagers from a middle class social group.

• We felt as a group this would be a reasonable age range four

our targeted audience as they are the only set of people whocan best relate to the film. This would then allow reasonable

feedback.

How did youattract/address your audience?

• The body language of our main characters helped attract and

address our audience as we played typical roles from that

specific social group, e.g. the “spudding” of the fist with another

to greet each other is a typical gesture made my gangsters

which we used.

• The dialect we used helped us to attract our audience as it

related to their social group, expressing a sense of unity.

• The title of our film, “Searching Fate” addressed and attracted

our audience. We felt a short title would be more noticeable

amongst our audience. The title related to our targeted audience

as we felt it is a key real life situation most teenagers go

through.

• Another feature which attracted and addressed our audience isour choice of music. As the song “Tears” by Tinnie Tempah is a

popular soundtrack it helped to target our audience.

• Our location attracted our audience as they are able to

recognize the setting and relate to it.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing

your film?• As a group we have learnt how to set up a camera and tripod

and how to use the iMovie on the iMac.

• As a group we became familiar with the camera and tripod, we

found the more we practised with them the easier it was to work

with. They allowed us to film our shots steadily and allowed a

constant flow through our film, giving us an excellent result.• The iMovie was the software we used to edit our shots, add

music and titles. At first it was a tricky software for us, however

as we soon became familiar with it we learnt how to extract an

un-wanted audio, cut specific bits in a shot, add sound onto our

shots and also add different effects in to our shots. As it was our

first time with the software it was hard, however after finishingour project we feel confident with the programme.

Looking back at your  preliminary task, what doyou feel you have learnt in

the progression from it tothe full product?

• After our preliminary task, I personally feel we have learnt to

use several different shooting techniques in our filming, for

example shot reverse shot. There was times when we used

some of the filming techniques automatically after our preliminary task. As a group we have improved in our

understanding of the different camera shots and understanding

of mise-en-scene. As we progressed from our preliminary task,

we learnt when to use certain techniques, like the 180 degree

rule. From doing our preliminary task and working up to our full

product we have learnt how to edit on the iMac e.g. adding

transition effects, making a shot faster/slower and cutting aspecific part of a shot. As a group we was able to realise each of

our abilities, which helped us when editing our film as we took

this on board when taking different roles.
