Happy 2020 - a new year, a new beginning, a new council, a new word……

Looking back at meaningful mid-week Advent services; a stunning cantata, sharing the word and sacrament around the table as we welcomed Jesus into our lives. I hope you were able to participate in everything and left enlightened, moved and ready to tackle the new year.

The council will meet for an all-day retreat on January 16. We will have meditation moments, learn more about one another, listen to team goals and set overall goals for the year. If you have an idea or recommendation you’d like us to consider, discuss or assign to a team, please let me know by January 10. Stay tuned for the results in this space next month.

HOPE. Our one word to focus on this year. So far, we’ve focused on trust and love and

now hope. These words have helped me to stay focused as I read, write and plan; I hope they help you, too.

I am looking forward to working with your council this year. We have several new faces with new thoughts and ideas. Once again, we are still in need of a Communications Chair. If this is something you’re interested in, contact me or the office.

2020 is also the year we’ll celebrate Christ Lutheran’s 30th Anniversary. I know there will be many opportunities to take on a small part of the celebration. Think how you can help with this; if we each tackle a little, we will accomplish a lot.

Thanks again for your support as we move forward in faith and hope.

Kitchen DonationsKitchen DonationsKitchen DonationsKitchen Donations

Many people, while shopping, purchase extra items and donate them to the church kitchen. While the items are appreciated, the church is trying to go green and use paper products. Please no Styrofoam. Thank you for always thinking of the church. “And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.” Hebrews 13:16

Coffee Hour Help 2020Coffee Hour Help 2020Coffee Hour Help 2020Coffee Hour Help 2020

Coffee hour is another form of fellowship offered by the church and coordinated by the Fellowship Team. Many months it’s the same people over and over. You’d like to help but can’t do coffee hour. What about just providing the goodies? You can bake, buy or do any combination. Just sign up on the Volunteers bulletin board and denote “goodies only”. Of course, coffee hour hosts are always needed and most welcome. Thank you in advance for your continued support. “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled” Matthew 5:6

Christ Lutheran Church prepares and serves a meal for Bread of Life on the second Sunday of each month. Bread of Life is a mission started by Ralph Reagan to provide emergency shelter, food, clothing and help with rent and utility bills. BOL also provides free medical care for the uninsured and daily church services. These services are to help the displaced families and individuals in our area. Their motto is “Giving a Hand up, not a Hand out”.

CLC needs to have volunteers to make food and serve every month. Service Team will conduct a training meeting in late January to help members know how to lead this mission. You will receive a step by step instruction sheet and the menu plans. Please watch the bulletin for times and places, plan to attend this informative session.

For more information about BOL you might go to www.breadofliferescue.org or visit their mission at 281 4th Street in Crossville.

“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:2

On Veterans Day, November 11, 2019, the rehabbed home on 4th Street, across from the Bread of Life Rescue Mission shelter and next to the chapel was dedicated to support homeless military veterans. Christ Lutheran Church was integral in getting the house rehabilitated. In June 2018, we had a large team of CLC and Thrivent volunteers drywall, scrape, and paint most of the inside of the house from a large monetary grant from Thrivent. Many other local commercial and charity organizations also worked on the house, turning it into a 5-bedroom home for homeless veterans. A few days before the Nov. dedication, more CLC folks did some final painting tasks. The dedication was held just after the downtown Crossville Veteran’s Day celebration activities. Ralph and Connie Raegan, leaders of the Bread of Life Rescue

Mission, cut the ribbon, officially opening the home. Craig Christen gave a short presentation of how CLC contributed to the home’s rehabilitation. They expect the first veterans to move into the home this January.

CLC supports the Bread of Life Rescue Mission by both monetary donations and providing/serving a meal on the 2nd Sunday of each month. This is a great and personally rewarding opportunity to serve our community’s needs. Please sign up on our CLC volunteer board for 2020 as meal serving leaders/helpers, and each month as food providers.
