Welcome To Bonita SpringsI am truly looking forward to spending the next three days together. In addition to interacting as a vibrant and committed professional community and catching up with friends old and new, we will be conducting some very important business.

The world is moving faster than ever, and there’s growing uncertainty about its destination. This acceleration is affecting everything from the global economy to long-standing cultural norms and established institutions. So it doesn’t take a huge leap of logic to assume it’s also affecting the way people need to learn in the workplace and the strategies organizations must deploy to prepare them to perform.

That assumption is clear in our Symposium theme — Learning: The Fuel for Performance. And it sets the tone for what’s on the agenda, including amazing keynotes that will challenge your thinking, Voice of the CLO sessions that will serve as crash courses in successful learning leadership, Power Hour stories to inspire you to innovate back at the office, plus informative workshops showcasing real-world L&D solutions.

Most importantly, the Symposium program will focus us on the critical business at hand — directing our collective energy to finding better ways to meet the most important challenges of developing a high-performing workforce in this fast-paced world.

So, as we engage in dynamic debate, discover new truths about corporate learning and deepen our professional relationships over the course of CLO Symposium17, I hope each and every one of you will speak up, share your insights, ask your questions and contribute to the important work we’re here to do. It’s this kind of coming together that fuels progress and gives the CLO Symposium its own distinct power to transform.

Thank you for being part of this fantastic community. We look forward to spending the next two days with you.

During this pre-conference session, you will discover the perfect ingredients to mix together to deliver successful learning and development for your organization while networking with the top organizations in the 2017 LearningElite.

Is this your first time attending the CLO Symposium? In this session, we will provide an overview of the conference agenda along with the opportunities and resources available so you can transform your Symposium experience! Linking Learning to Business Results Captiva

Conquering the Great Divide: Building Consensus Between IT & CLOs Conquering the Great Divide: Building Consensus Between IT & CLOs Sanibel

Building consensus between IT departments and L&D is not only critical for successful implementation and adoption, but it is a strategic relationship that can mean success or failure of a learning technology investment. On average, 5.4 people are involved in B2B purchasing decisions, oftentimes adding IT after the vendor selection has been made. So why aren’t more of us working with IT? Not only can learning & development benefit from a deeper relationship with IT in delivering successful learning initiatives, but IT can benefit from L&D having a clearer understanding of how to better support learning across the IT organization.

In this workshop, you’ll learn about: • How and when to engage IT in strategic conversations.• Strategies to deploy your technology solutions faster, with better adoption.• How L&D can enable experts to create content that keeps pace with digital transformation.• Solving the unique learning needs for the IT team and how to deliver a solution that works for their department.

Join Michael Miller to learn how Caterpillar is bringing its ecosystem of learning technologies together to capture all of the internal learning Caterpillar and external learners (its worldwide dealer network) are receiving and tracking it back to actual business impact. By creating a seamless learning ecosystem, you can transform from being buried under sourcing, tracking and analyzing training results to spending your time on the business initiatives that the CEO cares about — elevating your learning strategy to unlock the power of organizational capability.

In this session, you will: • Learn how to integrate data from disparate learning technologies. • Be able to develop a plan to extend learning programs to your external partners and measure business results.• Learn how to link learning to business results.

Building a Relevance Engine: Curation Strategies for High-Impact PerformanceBuilding a Relevance Engine: Curation Strategies for High-Impact

Pine

WORKSHOPS | Monday, April 24 at 3 p.m.

Content curation is being talked about everywhere, but how do you navigate the complexities to achieve an effective and sustainable solution? In this session, we’ll share a three-part approach to help you get there. Specifically, we’ll focus on:

• Approaching the Design: Different learning goals require different curation strategies. Are you looking to reinforce a targeted performance outcome or support next-gen innovation where employees can be inspired by new insights and perspectives to create new ways of thinking or doing? Different strategies are used to achieve these outcomes. • Selecting Platforms: Knowledge management tools and content catalogs have come and gone. In many ways, they have failed to deliver on the promise of learner access to relevant content. Curation initiatives are doomed to repeat the cycle if we don’t apply the tools appropriately. The next wave of curation technologies offers a range of platforms and tools. How do you select the appropriate technology approach that meets your strategic curation needs? • Ensuring Success Through Ongoing Support: Long-term sustainability relies on new roles that traditional learning teams don’t have today, but critically need. We’ll discuss the implementation of a curation strategy from the human support perspective.

Attendees of this session will be informed of the key elements to consider when developing a performance-centric curation strategy. Presenters will also share an effective approach to design strategies and case examples of successful curation initiatives to meet a range of needs.

During this session, attendees will: • Identify different methods for developing curated learning strategies to achieve different goals.• Discuss the strengths and limitations of different technological approaches.• Map a high-level curation strategy for a specific curation need. • Explore key considerations in evaluating and measuring the effectiveness of a curation strategy.

WORKSHOPS | Monday, April 24 at 3 p.m. Turning Managers Into Leaders: A Scalable, Collaborative Approach to Management DevelopmentTurning Managers Into Leaders: A Scalable, Collaborative Approach to Management Development Estero A

In a business climate where high-velocity change has become the norm, management teams play an increasingly critical role in helping their organizations succeed. Front-line managers shoulder much of this leadership burden. However, many new and experienced managers, having attained promotions primarily by demonstrating operational success, often lack the specific competencies needed to effectively lead people. Unfortunately, educating this group is challenging: their time is limited and their learning needs vary widely from one individual to the next.

In this session, we will discuss how to rapidly design and deploy an online management development learning experience that helps managers efficiently gain critical leadership competencies. We will share our specific experience implementing such a program at Unum, including our efforts to help managers learn both through expert insights and by connecting and collaborating with other managers.

In this session, you will learn: • How to design a management learning experience specific to your organization that motivates learners and drives results.• Approaches for facilitating connections and collaboration in an environment where learners have limited available time.• How to effectively leverage learning technology to deploy a combination of curated and original content in focused, “bite-sized” units across a large team.

WORKSHOPS | Monday, April 24 at 3 p.m.

Creating an Impactful Learning Culture at the Adecco Group Estero C

Adventist Health System is a faith-based health care organization headquartered in Altamonte Springs, Florida. A national leader in quality, safety and patient satisfaction, Adventist Health System’s more than 80,000 employees maintain a tradition of whole-person health by caring for the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of every patient. With 45 hospital campuses across nine states, a robust learning and development program is critical for Adventist Health System to be able to deliver optimal care to more than 4.7 million patients annually. In this session, Adventist Health System’s Learning Officer, Dr. Hap Aziz, will share how Adventist is implementing a learning foundation to ensure compliance, simplify training and drive it’s culture of first-class patient care. You will discover best practices and lessons learned, gaining insights into how Adventist is: • Integrated it’s LMS platform with both a legacy and future-state HRIS.• Achieved a transformation in it’s learning culture to support the same quality care across all 45 hospital campuses.• Streamlined learning content and processes to drive efficiencies.

Dr. Hap Aziz director of learning, Adventist Health System

The learning and development that occurs in our organization is everyone’s responsibility. While the Adecco Group has a learning function, the key to our business units’ success is their field leaders who champion and execute role preparation and skill building. As facilitators of learning, the field leaders search for guest trainers and partners who both excel at their craft as well as have the unique ability to teach and engage. From preparatory sessions and debriefs to personal integrity, our field leadership teams continually identify learning opportunities and resources. This sharing of learning perspectives is a real change in the culture for two of our brands, Adecco Staffing USA and Modis.

Come learn: • How the Adecco Group partners with the businesses to ensure that learning is their idea.• Real-life examples for how each team has accelerated productivity.

• The significant impact of learning on engagement.

CLO POWER HOUR | Monday, April 24 at 4:15 p.m.

Like many companies, Western Union is transforming its performance management process. During this Power Hour talk, Josh Craver, vice president of talent management at Western Union, will share our case study and discuss how you can apply a similar model that has leaders driving organizational change using a progressive learning model. Specific session takeaways include: • How to build a business case for a large-scale learning and change initiative.• How to get leaders’ buy-in and engagement in learning.• How to implement a progressive and practical leader as teacher model.

What words would you use to describe your culture? How do you ensure candidates and employees know what it takes to be successful in your culture? Learning and development are crucial components in the business of culture, results, and continuous improvement. In this session, we will focus on when the learning curve begins and how we continually focus on what is important at Dickey’s Barbecue Restaurants, Inc. Specific session takeaways include: • How do you know what your culture is? (not what it should be)• How do you make a transparent promise of your culture to candidates?• How do you follow through on your culture with employees?

Born and raised in the United States, John Hovell recently returned from a three-year job rotation in London with a new perspective. The experience proved to be an opportunity to learn and experience deep new insights on an individual level but it also led him to think differently about international rotations at an organizational learning level. In this session, attendees will be challenged to raise awareness of their own unconscious biases and make the most of job rotations as both an individual and organizational learning opportunity.

Hovell is the head of organization development and knowledge management for BAE Systems.

In Ask the Experts, speakers are invited back on stage to interact with the audience in a dynamic question and answer session. Attendees are encouraged to engage with the speakers on learning and development initiatives, generate questions and share ideas.

PANEL DISCUSSION | Tuesday, April 25 at 9:45 a.m. Millennial Leaders: A New Breed or More of the Same?

Calusa Ballroom D-H

Millennials are moving into the C-suite at Fortune 500 companies as boomers retire and the pool of Gen Xers struggles to fill demand. Some argue this next generation is distinctive and should be developed differently than leaders of the past. But is that necessarily the case? Driven by research on millennial leadership, this panel discussion explores the evolution of leadership and how learning leaders are designing leadership development for the next generation of senior leaders.

Riding the Digital Wave Pine

WORKSHOPS | Tuesday, April 25 at 11 a.m.

The workplace landscape constantly changes. Roles in the workplace evolve, and employees, no matter their titles, must adapt to new situations in order for your organization to succeed. How these employees show up — whether they are ready or not — will impact business. Join Rachael Arena of Boston Consulting Group and Chris von Baeyer of the Ariel Group as they explore how communicating with presence and authenticity helps people navigate the dynamic business landscape and sit with the discomfort of change. Learning objectives: • Learn how essential communication skills — presence, storytelling and effective writing — can help your team meet change with success. • Discover how Ariel Group’s theater-based training approach has been instrumental to Boston Consulting Group’s positive results. • Receive actionable ideas for answering these questions: Do your teams communicate value? Do they inspire others to achieve desired outcomes? Do they present themselves authentically?

As many of us seize the advantages of courseware virtualization, leadership development pundits are simultaneously grabbing headlines by categorizing our past efforts as failures. Our challenge is twofold: 1) to prove that leadership development efforts have in fact paid off, while 2) morphing our leadership development efforts into more modern forms given today’s advances in technology. So how do we overcome those challenges? One way is through data. Despite some experts’ opinions, there are behavioral and organizational data that show leadership development will produce significant behavioral change and organizational impact even in this new digital environment. The second way is through prudent conversion of learning into an ecosystem which leverages the best of synchronous and online experiences — PepsiCo is an example of an organization doing just that. In this session, you will: • Experience how PepsiCo’s grassroots “Learn Together” approach evolved. • Hear about PepsiCo’s leadership development journey. • Discover the proven implementation practices that ensure results. • Get data you can use to prove the efficacy of leadership development initiatives.

The Goldfish Glitch: Think Small to Win Big in Training Captiva

WORKSHOPS | Tuesday, April 25 at 11 a.m.

Find out how you apply these simple principles to engage your employees using a blend of microcontent, hybrid instructor-led training, adaptive learning and more.

Following these principles at Great-West Financial: 1. We increased our training net promoter score for compliance

e-learning from 15 to 32.2. We grew the audience of an LMS from 2,000 users per month to over

35,000 users per month.3. Various industry stats, growth of online video, live video, shorter

content, etc.

millennials.• Learn how to apply these simple principles to engage employees

using a blend of microcontent, hybrid instructor-led training, adaptive learning and more.

• Leave with an action plan to think small and increase training net promoter significantly.

Technology alone does not equal innovation in learning. In a marketplace saturated with the latest and greatest technology, it is easy to become overwhelmed by your options and to grab the “shiniest” tool available.

Determining your performance requirements and assessing your technology toolkit for alignment is a key driver for success. Delta Air Lines and Conduent have struck the right balance between high- and low-tech performance solutions. Brett Rose and Julie Johnson will share how they have leveraged their partnership to implement solutions for maximum impact at Delta.

In this session, attendees will learn: • The importance of unpacking performance requirements for maximum impact. • The value of analyzing your technology toolkit capabilities and limitations in alignment with learning requirements.• Delta’s approach to leveraging and growing strategic partnerships to source innovative solutions.

How HP Reinvented Learning & Development Using ‘Brain Candy’ How HP Reinvented Learning & Development Using ‘Brain Candy’ Pine

The Evolution of Learning & Development at PVHThe Evolution of Learning & Development at PVH Pine

Mike Jordan global head of talent & learning, HP Inc.

Jennifer Underwood vice president, learning & development, PVH Corporation

HP Inc. has reinvented the learning and development experience for its global workforce of over 50,000 strong. It has entirely transformed the way employees develop, connect and learn. Using a crowdsourced model to better understand its “learning state,” HP’s Talent & Learning team identified what was working, what was broken and what was missing in the current approach to learning. Key themes quickly emerged and shaped what needed to be redefined across the company and in every global region. Employees wanted to more easily search for and access content that was rich, endorsed by HP employees and relevant. They also wanted to be able to share their own content and connect with each other more organically. The HP Talent & Learning team partnered with stakeholders across the business to build an employee-centric platform rich with learning, sourced by employees and business teams, and even named by focus groups in the organization. This gave life to “Brain Candy,” HP’s uniquely branded and curated learning platform. Brain Candy was rolled out through a global campaign and quickly grew to more than 15,000 active users worldwide in only the first two weeks. The Talent & Learning team harnessed Brain Candy to launch blended learning experiences that include online learning and face-to-face experiences. Today, over 78 percent of the content that has been launched was curated by employees. This has led to more than 66,000 individual learning completions and speaks to HP’s culture of curiosity and employee-driven learning.

PVH is one of the world’s largest apparel companies, with $8.2 billion revenues in 2014, and more than 30,000 associates operating across 40 countries and speaking 20 languages. The company leverages and markets globally a diversified portfolio of brands, including Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, Van Heusen, IZOD, ARROW, Speedo, Warner’s, and Olga. In 2013, a CEO mandate set in motion a business driven effort to address the organization’s leadership gaps and support executive succession readiness. In this session, Jennifer Underwood will describe how she and her team set out to carry out the mandate by creating a system to build leadership capability, starting at the Business Unit President level with a carefully constructed leadership development program that was designed in partnership with Wharton Executive Education. During this session, Underwood will share:• PVH’s journey to build a corporate university with a suite of leadership development programs.• PVH’s focus on providing practical knowledge, networking opportunities and business-relevant sessions.• How PVH designed and implemented a senior leadership development program that looks beyond a mere focus of programming with a greater emphasis on the experience.• How PVH is incorporating post-program alumni learning.• How PVH is leveraging its leaders as faculty.• PVH’s approach to evaluating ROI of programs to prove value to the organization.

How Sally Beauty Is Using Technology to Move the Needle on Employee EngagementHow Sally Beauty Is Using Technology to Move the Needle on Employee Engagement Estero A

WORKSHOPS | Tuesday, April 25 at 2:45 p.m.

Sally Beauty Holdings (SBH) has over 5,000 stores in 13 countries. 2016 annual consolidated sales of over $3.9 billion make SBH one of the largest retailers of specialty beauty products in the world. With this footprint come many of the issues that retailers struggle with – recruitment, employee engagement, and retention. In spite of these challenges, SBH has a 13-year history of sales growth every year. While they are clearly managing the business the right way, the question is – how can they do it better?

In this session, Sally Beauty’s Director, learning & development, Yvette Birlew, will share how SBH has implemented a cloud-based learning system that supports key business initiatives. In addition, SBH’s Systems Integrator that implemented the platform, Rapid Learning Deployment (rapidLD), will have Jim Everidge, president/CEO, share how rapidLD has positioned this ‘beachhead’ technology to support human capital initiatives going forward. In this session, we will: • Explain the impact of global aging and the unique learning and development

L&D is at the forefront of creating a skilled, knowledgeable and agile workforce, so your company can respond to rapid change. That’s what your employees want, too. In fact, recent data indicates that millennials are more worried about skills and knowledge obsolescence than wage stagnation or layoffs.

This interactive workshop is designed to help you build a business case for “education as an employee benefit” that supports recruitment, retention and engagement of highly productive workers.

In this workshop, you will learn how to: • Create a business case for education that you can take back to your team.• Identify and address key skills gaps. • Supplement and use tuition assistance as a critical investment.

Training Resource Management: Using Technology to Manage ILT Cost and ProfitabilityTraining Resource Management: Using Technology to Manage ILT Cost and Profitability Sanibel

Stephan Pineau founder and CEO, Training Orchestra

The term “technology-enabled learning” is used almost interchangeably with e-learning today. However, technology can be used in many ways to optimize all types of training and learning. According to ATD, 70 percent of formal training is conducted as instructor-led—what technology do you use to manage logistics and resource management, scheduling, administration, financials, and reporting for your ILT? In this session, you will learn about using technology dedicated to managing the business side of ILT with Training Resource Management Systems, including how TRMS differ from an LMS, and ways in which you can use TRMS to optimize your ILT budget.

Business as UNusual: Becoming a Deliberately Developmental OrganizationCalusa Ballroom D-H

Robert Kegan author, “An Everyone Culture”

If a company so valued developing its people that it would seek to fashion a best-in-the-world incubator for growing personal capabilities, what would that culture look like?

Renowned Harvard professor and author Robert Kegan will share the results of his team’s scouring of the country for such cultures. What they found is a complete reversal of business as usual where most employees — at all levels — are doing a second job no one is paying them for: looking good, hiding weaknesses, managing others’ favorable impression of them. A Deliberately Developmental Organization (DDO) creates a safe enough culture for everyone to come out of hiding, to surface not only their strengths but their “growing edges,” so that one’s job becomes a tow rope. Learn how an organization and its people can help each other to get to the top of the mountain.

Three takeaways: • Learn the common features of DDOs: how they differently support and

challenge their people.• Learn the “business as UNusual” contract: new agreements about feedback,

about hierarchy, about mistake-making.• Learn the things you can do to begin exploring whether becoming more like a

DDO makes sense for you and your organization.
