PTFE U-rings aredesigned to be pres-surised from one side.

A metal spring acts as apre-load component ofthe sealing lips and pre-

vents the loss of contactpressure due to thermalexpansion. In operation

the pre-load of the metalspring is overridden by the system pressure.

The version with a metal lockingring is often chosen to producehousings with relatively littleeffort. When using the U-ringversion for rotation, the lockingring is the most reliable way of preventing twisting.

Contact area hardnessHRC 20-65The hardness of the contactarea is a key factor for thefunctionality of the seal. Formany applications standardconstructional, tempering andhardened steel also offer asufficient level of surface

hardness. A minimum hardnesspenetration depth, (see in-stallation data) of 300 mshould be observed. Otherwisea relatively soft shaft materialmay give way under the harde-ning layer, something whichmay quickly destroy a seal. Inprinciple, the hardest materialthat is practical in technicalterms should be used.

The dependence on thefollowing items should alsobe borne in mind: type of movement running speed media (lubricating, abrasive,
