Winter Family Camp Plans Underway!By Susan Huffer, Family Camp coordinatorWe had so much fun in the mountains this summer, we are going back this winter! FCCs Winter Family Camp will be December30th thru January 4th. We will be staying at Snow Mountain Ranch, a YCamp in Granby, Colorado.

There will be something for everyone! You can ski, snowboard, iceskate, tube or cross country ski. There is also a place to ski bike andto snowmobile. Winter Park is a great place to shop and to enjoy themountains. You will be able to choose between skiing at Winter Parkand/or Sol Vista.

There are only 10 rooms available, so you will have to act fast! Tosign up or get more details, pick up a trip information packet at the table

in the Rotunda, or call Susan Huffer at 623-2185.

Susan hasalways enjoyedthe dance. Infact, one of herfavorite showsis Dancing withthe Stars. But, toher misfortune,

she is married to a guy who doesnt justhave two left feet. He has four. Afternumerous informal lessons and at leastone attempt at formal lessons in ballroomdancing, it appears that I am a lost cause.I must have no sense of rhythm. Andthats more than frustrating because I notonly love Susan, I love music. Dancing

would be such a joyif only I could.Well, here I canmetaphorically at

least. My heart can sing and I can dance with you in the fast lane of life becausethis church runs at ministry with breakneck speed. Our shared ministries are

vast and wonderful. This year alone, itsbeen Whiz Kids, Bible Study, Unite, Lent,Twenty Nine Days of Giving, a 22 pieceorchestra and a profound Easter cantata,a dynamite Vacation Bible School,a Freedom Sunday picnic, FreedomFest, giving to missions, and two youth

mission trips. Wow! And now, we turnto complete what we began in re:NEW.How exciting is that?

Last year, we completed steps oneand two of a four step process. Weclearly identified our core values and didsome wonderful dreaming about how wecould have more of that life together. Nowcome steps three and four: visioning andstrategizing.

In his book Recreating the Church:Leadership for the Postmodern AgeRev. Dick Hamm says a ballroom fullof swirling dancers is a great image todescribe what it is like to lead churchestoday. If the leader stays on the ballroomfloor, in the midst of the dance, he orshe will inevitably get caught up in his

or her own immediate part of the dancefloor. We become focused on our dancepartner, the music, the steps. We thus loseour capacity to see who is dancing and

who is not; who is sitting on the sidelines without a partner; or who is having funand who is not. The swirling motion of institutional life, the lights and the music, begins to feel a bit like the Tilt-a-Whirl at acounty fair.

So, to help us get up on the balcony,

above the hubbub of the dance floor ourchurch Board has hired Rev. Hamm tolead us in a six to seven month processthat will help us dance from core valuesand dreams, toward vision and strategicplans.

First, with Rev. Hamms assistance, we will take the information you haverecently provided, and data we alreadyhave on hand about our city and ourchurch, and complete a contextualanalysis. From there, everyone will havethe opportunity to join in a series of smallgroup discussions based on Scripture andon the importance of listening to Godfor discernment. More details about theshared experiences will be coming overthe next four to six weeks.

The end product of this experience will be a compelling vision that leads usfor the next five to seven years and astrategy for achieving that vision: i.e., aclear direction for our continued dance inthe fast lanes of Edmond, Oklahoma.

Thanks for your wonderful supportand commitment to this process. Ourdance into an ever more abundant future

    with God depends upon it!

Since 1993, Operation Christmas Child h

delivered a message of Gods love to morthan 85 million children through simplegift-filled shoe boxes. Each year, hundredof thousands of caring people across

the United States, Canada, Australia, and Europe pack boxes with small toys, school supplies, hygiene items, and candy for shipment overseas, where our local ministry partners hand deliverthe boxes to needy boys and girls.

Join FCC Edmonds Operation Christmas Child project by donating small gift items ANDby coming to one of our upcoming Packing Parties! We have three packing parties scheduled- August 15, September 30 and October 18. We meet from 9 am to Noon, and you cancome and go as you need.

So gather some small items from the house or pick up an item or two whenever you goshopping. We can use toys, hard candy, toothbrushes, toothpaste, bar soap, combs, washcloths,

lollipops, mints, sunglasses, ball caps, hair clips, toy jewelry, watches, dolls, stuffed animals, kazoos, harmonicas, yo-yos, jumpropes. You can bring the items to Karla Mahan in the church office during the week or drop them

off in the Challengers Sunday School room on any Sunday. Please mark OCC on the bag. Nowis the time to think about saving empty shoeboxes from your summer sandals or the kids newschool shoes! And we are always in need of small clothing items for ages 2 through 14.

This year we hope to top last years total collection of 2100 boxes from all sources including ouown church support. Thank You, Michele Schlough (405) 844-3214.
