It was plantingtime on the farm. The old Allis-Chalmers tractor

had done its job.The plowingwas simple a single row.

But thats all we needed. It was justa truck patch. We were working agarden, planting spuds, corn, beans, okra, onions, and melons. And forme, those melons were the only partof the process that held any degreeof excitement. Oh how I loved thosewatermelons. Fully grown and chilledin the old milk can vat at 36 degreesFahrenheit. What a treat. But for thetime, I could only plant, wait, hope, and pray. Pray for the right amountof rain and sunshine and pray for lotsof melons. Ah, but not because I hadany doubts. I was ever the cockeyed

optimist. I just knew it was going tobe a banner year. God was going toprovidewatermelons!

Over the past 27 days, we have

been on a wonderful journey of givingat least one intentional gift a day. Wehave done the simplest of things:expressed a word of kindness, writtena note, made a phone call, or shareda meal. And the joy found has beenrich and wonderful: the gifts of self, encouragement, time, and life.

Now, our programmed journey isalmost complete. The seeds of hopehave been planted and the richest ofcrops is expected. As Max Lucado oncewrote: Sow seeds of hope and enjoythe optimism.

Join us this Sunday for more ofthese gift seeds with a whole newsense of optimism.

If youare not familiar with Children Worshipand Wonder, please visit our websitehttp://www.fccedmond.org/Kids andlearn about this multi-sensory worship

experience that will not only impact ourchildren, but our congregation in anamazing way. Children Worship andWonder will take the place of Sprouts

in the Fall at the 11:00 service, and if possible, the 9:00 worshipservice.

What Does This Mean for Parents? For the months of June, July, andAugust, our nursery will accommodatechildren ages infant through 3 years. There will be two separate nurseries;a nursery for infants and babies andanother for 2s and 3s. Children ages4 and up are invited, welcome, and

NEEDED in worship. Bringing childrento worship may not always be easy, butit is an essential part of their growth inChrist.

How Do I Prepare My Preschool

Child for Worship?Know that your child is going to move,be curious, and need to ask questions.(After all, worship is not a spectatorsport!) Below are a few suggestions thatmay help prepare your child for worship:(adapted from Worship Readiness:

    Preparing Children for CongregationalWorship)

    1. Introduce Your Child to the Place ofWorship

o Visit the sanctuary when it is empty.Walk around. Look. Point out symbols, windows, colors or anything that visuallyhelps us think about God.o Choose a place to sit. Sit wherethe child can have a clear view of thechancel.o Practice getting out hymnals & Bibles.

o Grab a worship bag and childrensbulletin.

    2. Introduce Your Child to the Leaderof Worship - Children respond to peopthey know. Did your child meet his/herfirst grade teacher in advance? Its asreasonable to make contact with ministand worship leaders before they leadyour child in worship.

    3. Introduce Your Child to the Order o

Worship - Anticipate events in the servwith your children: communion, offerinand dedications.

    4. Look Up Scripture with your Childr

    5. Find Ways to Help Your ChildContribute to Worship - Pass out bulletor greet worshippers.

    6. Help Your Child by Your Participatand Attitude

o Never say, Be quiet, be good, bestill. That doesnt make worship seemlike fun. DO model behavior for yourchildren.o Emphasize by words and actions thepositive, important, happy things youhave come to do together.o Remember, you are worshippingthrough your ministry to your own chil

    7. If your child has a special need, let know if there is something we can do oprovide to make worship a wonderful ameaningful experience for her/him.
