Nine (9) Taylor Road Baptist Church members plan to attend the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) June 15-16 in Orlando, Florida. This year’s emphasis is a report from the Great Commission Task Force. You may read the entire report online at this address:

http://www.pray4gcr.com/reports/penetrating-the-lostness/

If you read the report, you will note that it has major ramications for operations in the State Conventions and other entities of the SBC. Among members, there are mixed feelings and emotions which will likely result in some serious debate over acceptance of recommendations from the Task Force.

Please PRAY for your messengers and for the entire Convention as it convenes in Orlando on June 15.

3missionsWe recently completed an exceptionally good year for the Good News Club at Halcyon Elementary School. During the year, we had many meaningful, spiritual conversations with the children and we were encouraged that they are very interested in spiritual things. Our three teen teachers – Rena Caldwell, Cali Fobar, and Jamal Frazier – were outstanding in their weekly attendance, their preparation, their teaching, and their witness for Christ. Ron and Jeni Beckham, relatively new members of TRBC and experienced Good News Club leaders, assumed a leadership role in our Halcyon club at a time when their help was much needed. They brought with them some fruitful ideas that were implemented during the second half of the year.

At the close of the Halcyon Good News Club end-of-year party, Jamia approached me and asked what “salvation date” meant. We had just handed out Bibles which TRBC donated; and, in the back, there is a place to write down the date of your salvation. Jamia insisted that she believed in Jesus; but as I questioned her, I discovered that she had never actually given her life to Jesus Christ. Her grandparents take her to church sometimes but she does not have her own church and she wanted to trust in Jesus. We prayed. I had especially been praying for Jamia because I was not sure of her spiritual state. What a blessing!!!! Even when we thought it was all over for the year, God gave us one more!!!

This year we have some great trail bosses (directors) and we are looking for some cowhands to help assist them. Please call (271-3363) or email [email protected] to volunteer. We need several people to take care of all the little cowpokes (students) who will come to the ranch this year. If you can work for only one day, that would be a great help. Well, SUMMER is ocially here and school is out. Our students are doing some fun things, some service projects, and some activities that will challenge them to grow in their faith.

On June 4, our students will have a concert in the Student Center. Three of the bands – Hello Atlantis, Wreckage Before March, and Peace Be Still – are local bands; and the fourth – Ocean is Theory – is from the Atlanta area. Our students are looking forward to this concert and it is a great opportunity for other students, who may not come for any other reason, to be at Taylor Road Baptist Church.

The next day, June 5, our students will nish striping the church parking lot; a task that was started by some members of one of our adult Sunday School classes. We will begin work at 10:00 that morning, lunch will be provided, and we will end by 2:00 p.m.

Later in the month, June 21-25, we will participate in Student Life camp at Orange Beach. Darren Whitehead and David Nasser will be our camp pastors and Unhindered will lead our time of praise and worship.

Please be in prayer for our students as they embark on a busy summer. Be on the lookout next month for some pictures of our day of service and our week at camp.

Summer Classics

Over the past ve years the Adult Choir has probably sung over 150 dierent songs. All of them are good, but some you love and will never forget. This summer we are enjoying Summer Classics, singing some of the best choir anthems we’ve done on Sundays. Our idea is to have a worship-lled, stress-free choir rehearsal each week as we enjoy these favorite anthems with which we are familiar. Here are a few that we will sing this month:

Here I Am to WorshipI Bowed on My Knees

Send It (Him) on DownThou, O Lord

Shout to the LordTotal Praise

Days of ElijahMidnight Cry

Many of you have been a part of the choir in the past. This would be a great time for you, and anyone, to get back in the swing of things and enjoy singing with us each week.

As a bonus, we are working on three new songs for July 4 that are very exciting, and we look forward to sharing them. Meet us at 6:30 p.m., beginning this Wednesday, for rehearsal in the Choir Suite to participate in Summer Classics.

Students playing “Minute to Win It” as part of a recent Wednesday

night Refuge Service. They had a minute to roll three eggs into a

square using a pizza box. If they didn’t get their eggs there, they

got them on their heads!

Summer is a great time for vacations and outings that build strong family ties. Most of us plan carefully for such times and place them on our calendars at work and home as far in advance as possible. Here at Taylor Road Baptist Church, we believe that Sunday morning Bible Study participation is essential to building and maintaining strong, healthy families. We encourage every church family to commit to Bible study attendance at least 10 of the 13 summer Sundays. As you review and update your summer calendar, add notations for Sunday church attendance so that you will know those dates are obligated.

We believe that Summer is the time for us to grow, learn from God’s Word, and worship together as the body of Christ. Will you join with us and make the commitment, with God's help, to be here 10 of 13 Sundays during the period June 6 – August 29. Make this the best Summer ever for Taylor Road Baptist Church!!
