Congratulations to River Walters, who represented our school at the Multicultural Public Speaking competition. River was required to prepare a speech prior to the competition. She was then required to write an impromptu speech at the competition. Rivers impromptu speech was the strongest on the day—this is no mean feat considering she had no prior knowledge of the topic! Well done River, we are all very proud of your efforts and accomplishments. Thank you to Mrs Ceccato for organising this for our school.

BRILLIANT AT BEING RESILIENT - PERFORMANCE

This week we had a performance at our school and the focus was on being resilient and how to bounce back when things get tricky. Bouncing back is something we need to practice … like a trick, that way we’re prepared when something does go wrong. We also need to be prepared to try again when something doesn’t go to plan and not just give up. Hugh used puppets from Goldilocks and the Three Bears story to illustrate how we can all become more resilient, fix our mistakes and not just give up!

PDHPE - MISS FLETCHER

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all our Hanwood students on the effort they put into each of their events at the Athletics Carnival last week. In PE and Sport, students have been developing their fundamental movement skills in athletics. Students were able to then demonstrate their skills at the carnival and we saw some amazing results with many students through to the Zone Carnival. I would like to thank Mrs Vaessen and Mr Young for their tireless work and effort that goes into organising a Carnival. I would also like to thank all the Hanwood staff who helped run a fantastic day. Well Done! The school holidays are coming up soon and I would like to remind everyone about mindfulness and how important it is for whole health. It has been another busy term for everyone and now is a good time to reflect on the mind and body, pay attention to our thoughts and feelings and to connect with others. Mindfulness helps reduce anxiety and stress, help get a better nights sleep and help to build better relationships with others. This could be in the form of meditation, listening to music, Yoga, Tai-Chi, breathing exercises and paying attention to your thoughts, sounds and sensations. If your own bucket is not full, how can you fill other peoples buckets? I encourage all students to keep being active everyday. Play outside, eat healthy and limit screen time. A healthy body, healthy mind and a healthy attitude are all important for future success. Enjoy the holidays! Miss Fletcher PDHPE Teacher

1/2C - MRS CALLINAN & MISS GRIFFIN

This week we have had many fun lessons in class. We have been learning our weekly spelling words each day. As a fun way to learn our words, we have created them with letter tiles and stamps. In Maths, we have been looking at position. The students have been singing songs using positional language. In one of our lessons, we built a plan of the classroom out of Lego. We then drew our plan into our maths books. After this we had to hide a special star in the classroom and give our partner directions to find it. It was so much fun! Please don’t forget to replenish your child’s supplies in the classroom. We have run out of glue sticks especially,

and will need some for next term. Have a great holiday break! See you in term 3!

5/6W - MRS WADSWORTH & MRS WORKMAN

WOW - where has the term gone! In Stage 3 classrooms collaborative learning is encouraged and valued and there has been so much wonderful learning in our classroom this term. 5/6 W have been putting our scientific knowledge into practice after designing and constructing our small greenhouses; we have planted our seeds and are now nurturing our plants and watching them grow. We are all very excited and looking forward to a well deserved holiday, after our jam packed term of learning, and recharging our batteries before getting our groove on for the concert.
