Summary. Initially starting from the witness of the New Testament relating to Eucha-rist, the author moves onto the established order of Eucharist, founded on the LastSupper, within the apostolic Church. In spite of the scarceness of information dealingwith the Eucharist, the author reveals a strong connection between the Eucharist andthe Mystery of the Church. Eucharist is not an event from family life (such as the pas-chal meal), but an event relating to the friends of the lamb, i.e. to a free communionwhich comes as the result of eschaton penetrating history. The synaxis participatingin the Last Supper reveals the eschatological reality of the Church, as well as the fact

that, by the action of the Holy Spirit, Christ becomes an existential reality which is todo with the historical dimension of the Church. The Holy Spirit reminds the Churchof Christ, making Him present again in its life. Eucharist, as a revelation of a catholicChurch exceeds not only social divisions, but also those that are natural in their char-

acter, i.e. those that are to do with age, gender and race Everything that is going onwithin the Eucharist is not a reality parallel to the reality in heavens it is identical to

it. Divine life given through Eucharist constitutes not only that which God does andspeaks in Christ, but constitutes God Himself. This is why Christ wants Eucharist notto be a remembrance of His acts and His teachings but a remembrance of Him. Therelationship Eucharist-world is more positive, and the implications of the same arebeing dealt with in the light of the New Testament. The Eucharist is a synaxis contain-ing a pre-formed eschatological unity of the people of God, while the structure of thissynaxis represents the very structure of the Church itself: he who stands at the head ofthis synaxis stands at the place of the One through whom many have become oneBody. Eucharistic communion is at the same time both communio in sacris and com-munio sanctorum (communion through the holy and the communion of the holy).
