General Information: Semester Schedule:

Course Description: Magnet Leadership is designed to develop leadership skills necessary for the 21st Century global leaders. The course will provide students a framework for an advanced learning opportunity in this critical area. Students will engage in activities and experiences designed to develop leadership skills including: problem solving, speech and debate skills, critical thinking, conflict resolution, analysis of global and local leadership strategies and practices in history and the modern era and global service learning.

Topics: What is International Studies? What is Leadership? What is Globalization? What is the role of International organizations in Globalization? What is the relationship between Technology and Globalization?

*Current Events will be studied throughout the semester** Topics and reading assignments are subject to change. Each topic area will be expanded.

Course Requirements: Participation in daily class work, (pop quizzes, homework, quizzes, class activities, class discussions, group work, etc.). Three-ring binder for class work and homework. Colored pencils and a black or navy blue ink pen. Major Tests or Evaluations – Tests will be a mixture of multiple choice, fill-in-the blank, short answer, and discussion questions. Extra

credit is given only on unit tests, but not on unit make up tests. Use of technology: The students will be responsible for keeping up with the class blog, use of the Internet, and the ability to use a

word processing program (i.e.: Microsoft Word). Students will also need access to a printer. An agenda (to be used daily) Projects – to be announced Outside readings – given with each unit Final Exam – The final exam is a comprehensive exam of the material studies throughout the 18 weeks of the semester. Dates for the

Evaluation:1. Grading Scale: A = 90-100, B = 80-89, C = 74-79, D = 70-73, and F = below 702. Grading: The students will be graded using a weighted system. Each assignment will fall into one of five categories. Items in each category will be averaged, and a percentage of that average (specified below) will count as part of the overall grade. Grades will be averaged using a computer program. Progress reports are given at three week intervals. Only percentages with .5 or higher will be rounded to the next highest average.

Grade Breakdown: Daily work/Homework/Quizzes 20% Presentations/Projects 30% Tests and Essays 35% Final Exam 15%
