Job Purpose

As Registered Manager, to manage and be accountable for the delivery of all aspects of care and support to the residents of the home. To provide leadership, expertise and model best practice in dementia care, in line with local and national policy.

Accountabilities

1. To ensure regulatory standards are fully met and motivate and empower staff to achieve continuous improvement in the delivery of a person-centred dementia-focussed service.

2. To manage the registered nurse team to ensure a caring environment through high standards of professional practice, addressing all needs of the service users at all times.

3. To be accountable for Clinical Governance measures in the home.

4. To work with Head of Dementia Services to develop dementia policies and knowledge for Milestones Trust.

5. To have and maintain current specialist knowledge and expertise in dementia, acting as a positive role model and expert clinician for Milestones Trust.

6. To provide specialist mental health nursing expertise in the development of care and care plans, ensuring personalisation is at the heart of all clinical and care staff activities.

7. To manage the timely and efficient assessment of potential service users and support the business of Humphry Repton House to ensure the home is at full resident capacity, to include, as required, the negotiation of fees for individual service users.

8. To be accountable for the financial viability of care packages proposed and/or provided for service users.

9. To manage through appropriate delegation all service users’ care within the home. To ensure that levels of care and support meet individuals’ needs at all times.

10. To demonstrate and maintain expert and best practice in assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care, referring to other professionals as necessary.

11. To manage the specialist learning of the registered nurses to improve their understanding and knowledge of dementia and clinical skills and fulfil their NMC requirements.

12. To manage the learning of all staff in the home to further their understanding and knowledge of dementia.

13. Ensure that staff are working at all times to the requirements of the recognised outcomes from the Care Quality Commission.

14. To manage the clinical resources deployed in delivering care and support including budget control and auditing of these resources.

15. To manage the medication systems to ensure safety and legal requirements are met and will include ordering, purchasing, budget control and auditing.

OtherSpecial demands. This should include any extraordinary conditions applicable to the job (for

example, heavy lifting, exposure to temperature extremes, prolonged standing, or travel, shifts). –

a. The role will involve moving and handling of residents and using appropriate equipment

b. Working a variety of shift patterns, having relevant training to the role commensurate with theservice e.g. Dementia pathway, Recovery pathway, Positive Behavioural Support, Peoplemoving and handling skills.

Key results area/measures for the role

The following areas are measured by a variety of methods such as feedback from Managers,use of service, delivery of personal objectives by the individual via the performance

management system and results from Operations KPIs.

1. The smooth day-to-day running of shifts is achieved by effective delegation to the registered nurses and teams.

2. The home is staffed as needed for effective and efficient service provision and staff are managed appropriately, professionally and effectively at all times.

3. All prospective service users, and their carers or those who commission for them, have their reasonable needs met and are treated in a person-centred way at all times.

4. The experience of being resident at Humphry Repton House is positive, safe and healthy.

5. All people are dealt with in a welcoming and professional manner for positive and effective working relationships so that excellent customer service and experience is delivered

6. Humphry Repton House is seen as a specialist dementia/ Mental Health nursing home of choice, delivering exceptional specialised service and care, providing a life-affirming experience with care and kindness at its heart.

7. Humphry Repton House is at full capacity with service users receiving treatments and care packages which are appropriate to their needs and financially viable.

8. Clinical resources are used effectively and efficiently, within budget.

9. The medications systems are safe and secure and meet legal requirements.

Person specification

Essential Desirable/ IdealQualifications Registered General Nurse or Registered Mental Health

Nurse with extensive post-registration experience, including the application of the Mental Capacity Act, Deprivation of Liberty and Safeguarding.

Educated to GCSE Level A-C or equivalent in Maths and English or ability to pass numeracy and literacy assessments.

Skills Effective time management and work prioritisation skills and the ability to work well with competing demands on time.

Excellent communication skills with the ability to provide effective communication, motivation and support to staff.

Mentoring /coaching skills and the ability to provide a positive and professional role model to other staff.

Good IT skills and familiar with packages such as

Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel.

Pro-active and creative thinking skillsExperience Proven experience of senior management in a complex

organisation, including skills in negotiation.

Proven experience of working at a senior level in a CQC regulated service.

Proven experience of effective and prudent budget management.

Proven experience of working with assessment and care planning and senior-level supervision of this work.

Proven experience and sound current knowledge of dementia care.

Proven experience of taking responsibility for managing Health and Safety in a health/ care setting

Proven experience of taking responsibility for managing clinical resources and clinical governance in a health/care setting

Sound knowledge of leading others in the use of medication including antipsychotics.

Proven experience of the ability to work on own initiative as leader of and part of a team and be self-motivated

Other Willingness to be flexible, adaptable and positively responsive to change.

Effective time management and work prioritisation and the ability to work well under pressure.
