“While other worldviews lead us to sit in the midst of life’s joys, foreseeing the coming sorrows, Christianity empowers its people to sit in the midst of this world’s sorrows, tasting the coming joy.”

Our Great GodMusic and Lyrics: Fernando Ortega; Mac Powell

Eternal God, unchanging, Mysterious and unknown; Your boundless love, unfailing, In grace and mercy shown. Bright seraphim in ceaseless flight Around Your glorious throne; They raise their voices day And night in praise to You alone!

Chorus:Hallelujah! Glory be to our great God! Hallelujah! Glory be to our great God!

Lord, we are weak and frail And are helpless in the storm; Surround us with Your angels And hold us in Your arms. Our cold and ruthless enemy, His pleasure is our harm. Rise up, O Lord, and he will flee Before our sovereign God. Chorus

Let every creature in the sea And every flying bird, Let every mountain, every field, And valley of the earth, Let all the moons and all the stars In all the universe Sing praises to the living God Who rules them by His Word.ChorusCONFESSION OF SINOur Father, you promise that you do not hide your face from us in our troubles. But we have not called out to you. We have not sought your face. We have tried to take care of our own troubles. In arrogance, we have thought of ourselves as self-sufficient. Forgive us our arrogance. And point us to the Lord Jesus who came to suffer and die and rise again for us. Help us turn to Him in faith and embrace life in Him that calls us to the cross before the crown. Through Him we pray, Amen.

SILENT CONFESSION OF SIN

ASSURANCE OF GOD’S MERCY 1 Corinthians 15:3-4

† HYMN OF GOD’S MERCY Come Ye Souls, By Sin Afflicted

Music: Kevin TwitCome ye souls by, sin afflicted,Bowed with fruitless, sorrow down;By the broken, law convicted,Through the cross, behold the crown;Look to Jesus; Look to Jesus; Look to Jesus; Mercy flows through Him alone.

Take His easy, yoke and wear it;Love will make your, obedience sweet;Christ will give you, strength to bear it,While His grace, shall guide your feetSafe to glory, Safe to glory, Safe to glory, Where His ransomed captives meet.

Bless-ed are the, eyes that see Him,Blest the ears that, hear His voice;Bless-ed are the, souls that trust Him,And in Him, alone rejoice; His commandments, His commandments, His commandments Then become their happy choice.

Sweet as home to, pilgrims weary,Light to newly, opened eyes,Like full springs in, deserts dreary,Is the rest, the cross supplies; All who taste it, All who taste it, All who taste it Shall to rest immortal rise.Look to Jesus; Look to Jesus; Look to Jesus; Mercy flows through Him alone.

WORSHIP THROUGH GIVING † DOXOLOGY AND PRAYER OF THANKSGIVINGHallelujah, Glory be to our great GodHallelujah, Glory be to our great God

SERMON Rev. Dr. Steve WoodworthPsalm 102 “The Sparrow’s Psalm”

SACRAMENT OF THE LORD’S SUPPERGuidelines for Reception of the Lord’s Supper: We welcome all Christians who are trusting in the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation, who have been baptized, and who are identified appropriately with a congregation that proclaims the gospel, to participate in the Lord’s Supper. Children who have been examined by the elders and admitted to the Lord’s Table are also invited to partake of this Sacrament. If you are not a Christian, or you are not prepared to share in this sacrament, we encourage you to spend this time in prayer, reflecting on your need for God’s mercy and on his gracious provision of a sin-bearing Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Note About Partaking: “Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of profaning the body and blood of the Lord. Let a person examine himself, then, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup. For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment on himself.” (1 Corinthians 11:27-29)

Note About Communion Wine: The outer ring of each tray contains wine. The inner rings contain grape juice.

Prayers of Reflection for Those Not PartakingIf you are not able to receive the Lord’s Supper this morning, please use this time to meditate on one of the following prayers.

Prayer for Those Searching for TruthLord Jesus, you claim to be the way, the truth, and the life. Grant that I might be undaunted by the cost of following you as I consider the reasons for doing so. If what you claim is true, please guide me, teach me, and open to me the reality of who you are. Give me an understanding of you that is coherent, convincing, and that leads to the life that you promise. Amen.

Prayer for AwakeningLord Jesus, I have heard teaching from the Bible for years, and have been in church for years, but very little of this even seems real to me. Please show me the reality of what you are saying. Unnerve me with the badness of the bad news. Captivate me with the goodness of the good news. Make what is familiar seem new. Amen.

Prayer of BeliefLord Jesus, I admit that I am weaker and more sinful than I ever before believed, but through you I am more loved and accepted than I ever dared to hope. I thank you for paying my debt, bearing my punishment on the cross, and offering forgiveness and new life. Knowing that you have been raised from the dead, I turn from my sins and receive you as Savior and Lord. Amen.

† HYMN OF RESPONSE Behold the Lamb

Music and Lyrics: Keith and Kristyn Getty; Stuart Townend Behold the Lamb who bears our sins away, Slain for us - and we remember The promise made that all who come in faithFind forgiveness at the cross. So we share in this bread of life, And we drink of His sacrifice As a sign of our bonds of peace Around the table of the King.

The body of our Saviour Jesus Christ, Torn for you - eat and remember The wounds that heal, the death that brings us life Paid the price to make us one. So we share in this bread of life, And we drink of His sacrifice As a sign of our bonds of love Around the table of the King.

The blood that cleanses every stain of sin, Shed for you - drink and remember He drained death’s cup that all may enter in To receive the life of God. So we share in this bread of life, And we drink of His sacrifice

As a sign of our bonds of grace Around the table of the King.

And so with thankfulness and faith we rise To respond, - and to remember Our call to follow in the steps of Christ As His body here on earth. As we share in His suffering We proclaim Christ will come again! And we’ll join in the feast of heaven Around the table of the King
