Previously, ACRCP was 1 project – now 4 projects:

1. ACRCP - National breeding support. US00064

2. ACRCP - Durable genes. US00063

3. ACRCP - Towards 2019 and a century of monitoring cereal rust pathogens in Australia. US00067

4. ACRCP- Molecular marker program CSIRO/Univ. Sydney/CIMMYT collaborative project. CSP00164

Current status of “new” projects [1 July 2012 thru 30 June 2017]

Proposals include:

- reducing Director’s salary to zero, incrementally, over project life- GRDC to fund (50%) Business Manager- Fee for Service subsidy to reduce to zero (wheat by year 3, barley by year 4)- full review of FFS, including costings, once Business Manager is appointed - establishment of a Breeder’s Advisory Group

Primary purpose is to give effect to the Australia-US Defence Trade Cooperation Treaty, signed by the Bush and Howard governments in 2007

Main benefit is to provide some Australian defence industries with relief from a restrictive export control regime that has hampered Australian-US defence goods and defence industry trade

The Bill has established a potentially stifling export control regime for “intangible transfers” of technology that will impact a broad range of what would ordinarily be open research in Australian universities etc

Dept of Defence has been determined to meet the US imposed conditions for treaty ratification by implementing an incredibly restrictive regulatory regime - a permit regime, for intangible transfers of knowledge in relation to all items listed on the Defence Strategic Goods List (380 page document with a 79 page index….)

Late in the development of the Bill, Defence put forward an amendment making publication in contravention of the permit regime a crime, with a penalty of up to 10 years in jail

Puccinia graminis f. sp. tritici and P. striiformis f. sp. tritici appear on the DGSL.
