Now in its 23rd consecutive year, the Achievement Awards program was established by TCA to honor projects that use site-cast Tilt-Up concrete to introduce new building types, advance industry technology and provide unique solutions to building programs. You can view all winning projects at http://www.tilt-up.org/awards/tilt/2014/ index.php. The Strathan Sales building in Topeka, KS won for their design in the Warehouse/ Distribution Division. The owner of the Strathman Sales building wanted a temperature-controlled beer distribution center that would be functional but would avoid the “generic box” look. The solution was a tilt-up structure utilizing cast-in-place thin brick, not only in the office but throughout the distribution area of the building. A form liner representing split-face block along with formed quoins, were utilized to achieve a more classic look. Thermomass's insulated panel system was installed to maintain the building temperature requirements more efficiently than traditional insulating systems. Because of the numerous interior demising walls constructed out of tilt-up, panel, casting area was limited and temporary casting beds were necessary to cast all of the panels.
