PRE-ORDER LIST: August 2015
www.facebook.com/orchidphile
IMPORTANT ! Address all correspondence & orders to: [email protected] (Please mention “Plant Pre-Order” & note the particular event or Mail Order in the subject line)
This list replaces & supersedes all previous lists. All orders are filled in the order in which they are received and are subject to prior sale.
Prices are listed in US Dollars
OF SPECIAL NOTE: We will not be bringing everything on this list so a Pre-Order will reserve the plant – in addition, we often
bring some first bloom One-of-a-Kind seedlings grown from flasks purchased from select cutting-edge breeding programs in Taiwan. At various times during the year, this will also include plants of Phal. bellina, Phal. violacea and hybrids with their
breeding background. These will be available on a First Come-First Serve basis – all will be One-of-a-Kind plants, not mericlones.
We’ve also expanded our collection of miniature Chinese Cymbidiums, miniature Vandaceous and miniature
Dendrobiums – all of which grow & flower happily with our Phals. These are now listed these in their own sections.
Our “Previously Flowered” section is at the end of this list ~ these are fully mature mericlones, many of which are now available at reduced prices.
Most plants are in 2.7” pots as first or second bloomers unless otherwise noted as being fully mature in 4” pots
Stock quantities of 6 or fewer are noted under size in parens ( )

Phal. cornu-cervi fma. chattaladae
(the true chattaladae !)
(Rare color form of Species – Sib cross from Dr. David Grove made from the original species)
This is the genuine chattaladae form of
Phal. cornu-cervi from David Grove, owner of the only known plant of this
variety. NOTE: There are other red
forms of Phal. cornu-cervi being offered – but they are actually fma. rubescens or a
cross between fma. rubescens and possibly fma. chattaladae….all showing a hint of yellow in their lateral sepals and most with a yellow back to the flowers. Fma. chattaladae has a totally solid red back to its flowers with no hint of yellow
anywhere except the very tips of the lateral sepals & it retains its solid red
color, even on the fading flowers, whereas fma. rubescens will begin to
show yellow as the flowers fade.

Phal. hieroglyphica fma. alba
(Species: ‘Golden Promise’ AM/AOS x self)
The rare alba form of Phal. hieroglyphica which we find much more charming than the common white & burgundy form. For an alba form these have been extremely
vigorous growers & a few from this group have flowered already. Always leave the
previously flowered spike on the plant since they do tend to add additional buds
while making a new spike or two.

Phal. mariae
(Rarely Available Species)
This species has all but disappeared in cultivation. Unfortunately, many plants
found their way into this country mislabeled as Phal. mariae when they
were actually Phal. bastianii. Phal. mariae is easily recognized by its gently cascading flower spikes, a slightly more cupped flower and bold blotching on its
creamy-white background. We’ve already flowered a few from this population last
July & it is the TRUE Phal. mariae. Will
re-flower from old spikes in addition to producing new.

‘Tara’ 4N
Phal. (Dor.) pulcherrima alba fma. champornensis ‘Tara’ – 4N
(Tetraploid Peloric form of Species)
This keiki is from a tetraploid (4N) population producing fuller flowers with a much more vividly colored & well-defined peloric splash on its petals ! Unlike the
diploid forms of this species, our 4N population is very slow to produce keikis,
making only one every 1-2 years. This particular clone was selected for its fuller flower, heavier substance & bold splash
patterning on the petals.
Additional Note: the clone ‘Tara’ has slightly more green to its yellow splash
than its siblings which are a rich golden-yellow.

MULTIFLORAL MINIATURES & COMPACT-GROWING BRIGHTLY COLORED NOVELTIES:
Again, most of these clones are the result of the excellent Taiwanese breeding programs.
Many of the plants below were hand-picked from select nurseries over the last several years on our annual trips to Taiwan.
PLEASE NOTE: With many of the harlequins & the red or orange novelties, differences in light & temperature at various times
of the year will cause some variation to occur in the flower color and/or intensity of their markings. Under warmer temperatures & more shaded conditions in the summer, many red hybrids with yellow or orange in their breeding background
will flower showing more of those colors. Under cooler temperatures & brighter light in the fall to winter months, the red pigment in the flowers is more strongly expressed resulting in solid red flowers.

(Acker’s Sweetie x Chian Xen Angel)
Just awarded by our AOS Phalaenopsis Judging team at this year’s 2015 Taiwan

the harlequins we saw ! Producing 16 stunning and extremely full flat flowers, perfectly spaced on two inflorescences,
its over 4” flowers were dramatically marked with extremely crisp blackened-

Phal. Ebony Sweet Gem (prov.) ’Little Treasure’
(Orig: Phal. (Yu Pin Natsume x
Fuller’s Berry) ‘OX 1659’ Another clone using the great miniature
harlequin parent, Fuller’s Berry ! Combined with Yu Pin Natsume, it has
created cardboard-substance flowers that are almost black & are FRAGRANT…our
photo, shot at the show with a flash, doesn’t begin to capture how really
“almost black” these flowers are (due to the flash reflecting back to the camera).
They are really as “black” as the Fredclarkeara’s or the Millenium Magics
thanks to the rich harlequin pollen parent, Fuller’s Berry ! Mated with Yu Pin
Natsume, another heavily marked harlequin mini, its rich dark color is the result of layer upon layer of harlequin suffusion coming from both parents,
producing a thick flower with heavy color pigment and no hint of any other color.
These plants have already flowered once, producing 2 branching spikes in just a 2.7” pot and will continue to produce
flowers on previously bloomed spikes in addition to creating new…a couple which
were cut back just 2 months ago are already spiking again. A cutting-edge
“almost black” multi-floral mini !

Not your everyday white multi-floral miniature, this particular clone of Little Gem Stripes carries a bold red lip that makes the whole presentation really

heavy substance flowers – long lasting and dramatic. The striping and ready branching habit comes from the multi-
floral mini parent, Phal. Ho’s Little Caroline, and the pod parent, Phal. Ever-spring King, adds heavy substance to the flowers & emboldens the striping due to its harlequin influence. Just awarded an

and several are now just producing their first set of double spikes. A rich blood-

extremely long-lasting. A fully mature plant will produce wonderfully compact

FRAGRANT MINIATURE CHINESE CYMBIDIUMS:
All the species listed below grow & flower easily WITH our Phals under the same light & temperature conditions since they are miniature growing Chinese species, requiring much lower light, less space & will grow under warmer temperatures than their larger cousins ~ they also don’t require the extreme chill in order to make their flower spikes. Two of our clones in particular are just 6” in height – perfect for windowsill & under-lights growing ! As you will notice, we are particularly fond of the green & yellow flowering varieties with either delightfully compact or elegantly tall flower spikes. We’ve found that the traditional burgundy-brown color is just too muddy to stand out and make a statement. Several of these varieties also have the added charm of VARIEGATED FOLIAGE, meaning they’re attractive, even when not in flower ! Variegated foliage comes at a higher price because it’s greatly prized in Japanese & Chinese cultures, meaning the stronger the variegation, the more expensive the clone. Most of these clones/divisions came in recently, bare-rooted, and are now well-established in their moss pots – they are just now forming their new growths in preparation for flowering once again.

Habenaria rhodocheila
(Two different color forms of Species)
We have been amazed at how easy to grow that this Habenaria species has been ! Even when not in flower, their foliage is beautifully marked. We’ve
found that if we keep them just slightly moist with a light spritzing, not wet, when
they go deciduous, they produce their spring growths readily. Allowing them to
dry totally will most likely cause their loss over the winter – we know, we used
to follow the culture sheets & did just that – and they never came back ! We’ve also discovered that trying to grow them in a bark mix is more than challenging, so
we’ve switched to growing them in moss. This population has been extremely
vigorous & is well worth adding to every collection. Plus, despite our initial
doubts, they LOVE growing in the New Zealand moss ! We’ve been amazed at
how really easy Habenarias are to grow & flower – just don’t follow any of the
culture sheets & you’ll do great !

(Ever-spring King x Ho’s Little Caroline)
Another new clone of this amazing harlequin hybrid showing the wide

others, and in just 2.7” pots have already produced two branching spikes !

Mixing a non-fading waxy yellow with a
yellow harlequin has produced this super flower with the Harlequin expression
focused just around the column, creating a dramatic presentation on wonderfully compact spikes ! Light & temperature
will affect the degree of Harlequin spotting so these are best grown cooler
& brighter – summer flowering may add a bit more harlequin spotting on its
segments. Long-lasting & non-fading flowers from the newest direction in

Combining two of the best pristine white
multi-floral miniature parents has produced an extremely floriferous petite
bush of adorable white ! As first bloomers, they already produced 2-3

grown up. The breeder, Mr. Frank Woo, has been doing some cutting-edge multi-floral mini hybrids & every time we visit his nursery in Taiwan we find multitudes of plants we simply cannot live without !
