ROMAN HOLIDAY

Úrsula Corberó swapped her native Spain for the streets of Rome for our cover shoot by renowned Italian photographer Mario Sorrenti. “Mario is an icon,” the actress says. “He’s a person who transmits a great sense of calm, but he is also keenly aware of his surroundings and very observant. I love chatting with him, and playing in front of his camera. I felt free.” Decked out in dazzling pieces from Roman master jeweller Bvlgari’s Fiorever collection, Corberó appeared to have the time of her life. “Mario told me he wanted me to be myself; he didn’t want me to play a character. We all have many characters within ourselves, we are not just one person. He gave me permission to experiment with different moods with each change of clothing, staging and setting. I let myself go and it was marvellous.”

The end of the year is always such a blur, with the rush of holiday parties, school events and business matters to wrap up. And don’t get me started on Christmas, which seems to creep up on us earlier and earlier each year. In the midst of all the craziness, it’s nice to take even just a moment to reflect on the 12 months gone by and brace ourselves for the months to come.

Which is where I find myself now, madly dashing to finish this issue but taking a few minutes to acknowledge what we’ve managed to accomplish. Not only do we get to end the year with a bang – aka the beautiful Spanish actress Úrsula Corberó – but we also proudly present our first-ever dedicated supplement on Hong Kong’s 40 most intriguing, accomplished and game-changing men and women under 40 years old. 40 Under 40 is a true labour of love, with every single participant styled, photographed and interviewed by our talented team.

This December issue, meanwhile, features a host more fascinating figures and stories from around the world. Uber-stylists Olivia Tsang and Tasha Ling bring us two stunning photo shoots that perfectly capture the holiday mood.

Our fashion and features editor Zaneta Cheng reports back from her recent jaunts among the elephants and antelopes of Zimbabwe, as well as the fashion-world luminaries at the Golden Heart Awards co-hosted by Michael Kors in New York, and shares an intimate conversation with Shiatzy Chen founder Madame Wang at her Paris boutique.

Editor at large Jing Zhang also criss-crosses the globe, talking to hotelier extraordinaire and Studio 54 co-founder Ian Schrager in Shanghai and checking out the landmark exhibition of Leonardo da Vinci’s Codex Leicester journal in Florence.

The guys are getting in on the action too, with senior editor Jon Wall playing in the mud with Rolls-Royce in Wyoming, copy editor Steve Reels turning clods of peat at the Highland Park distillery in Orkney and society editor P.Ramakrishnan popping up at all the hottest events in Hong Kong.

And finally, all of our Prestige elves have been working tirelessly to bring you our biggest and best Christmas gift guide ever. All you have to do is flip to page 169 and start making your lists. And be sure to follow us on Instagram (@prestigehk) to join our incredible 12 Days of Christmas giveaway campaign, kicking off on December 13. From our family to yours, we wish you the happiest of holidays and look forward to seeing you again in 2019!
