Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) PBL is one of the core programs that we use at Killarney Vale Public School to effectively deal with student wellbe-ing issues. Positive behaviour for Learning is embedded in the Department of Education’s Wellbeing Policy that is a contemporary strengths-based approach so that every student in NSW public schools can connect, succeed and thrive at school and beyond. PBL works in three tiers: Tier 1: Playground Systems Classroom Systems Tier 2: Learning and Support systems

Classroom Problem Solving (Tier 2 links both Tiers 1 and 2 together)

Tier 3: This is the next part of our journey and we are working towards this level. Specialised interventions We are one of the few schools operating at a tier two level on the Central Coast. There is only one tier three school operating on the Central Coast and we are moving towards that goal every day. In saying that we believe that parental involvement and consultation is paramount to the success of PBL at KVPS. This is a call out to any community members who would like to be a part of our PBL Tier 1 Team. Our PBL Tier 1 team meets in even weeks of the school term on Tuesday mornings between 8:30am and 9:05am. If you are interested please let the office know or direct your enquiries to Mrs Brooke Eastment Rel. Assistant Principal Stage 3.

Quality work with Mr Moxon Late last week I was visited by Rebekah, Alexis, Lily, Elise from the wonderful KR. These amazing students read their sensational sentences to me about the Hungry Caterpillar. Elise also spoke about how the caterpillar forms a cocoon and eventually turns into a pretty butterfly. Well done KR, keep up the great writing. I also had the privilege of spending time with almost 200 of my closest friends at Mr Moxon’s Monstrous Morning Tea as part of our PBL Star Voucher Day reward session. We had some snacks, laughs and some dancing, I was very impressed at the response to my morning tea and wanted to thank everyone for their attendance. I am already looking forward to the end of term Star Voucher Day, keep saving. Have a great week Killarney Vale

Book of the Week

Snail and Turtle are Friends – Stephen Michael King

Snail and Turtle are Friends is a delightful tale of two friends who have a beautiful caring friendship! Throughout the fable the audience discovers how these two characters are similar and different, which is shown throughout the text’s vibrant illustrations. The story also highlights the various activities that the Snail and Turtle like to do together. From this unique friendship, children will discover that being friends with others, requires accepting others for who they are. The story also carries the important message of sharing.
