Command is:

Directing, ordering, or controlling by virtue of explicit statutory, regulatory, or delegated authority.

Logistics Section Chief

The Logistics Section Chief is responsible for ensuring that assigned incident personnel are fed and have communications, medical support, and transportation as needed to meet the operational objectives.

Check in and receive assignment

After being deployed and and arriving on scene at an incident, this is the first task for response personnel.

Divisions

This organizational entity within the Operations Section may be sued to divide an incident geographically.

Public Information Officer

Handles media inquires at the incident scene.

Staging Area

This incident facility is the location where personnel and equipment are kept while waiting for tactical assignments.

Interoperability means

Personnel from different jurisdictions can all perform the same tasks using the same protocols.

Unified Command

Example: You are working in a complex incident. There are multiple Incident Commanders representing multiple jurisdictions working together to establish incident objectives.

ICS structure

Some who serves as a Director every day might not hold that title when deployed under an ICS structure.

Operations Section Chief

Directs tactical actions to achieve the incident objectives.

Command Staff

If the Incident Commander designates personnel to provide public information, safety, and liaison services, the personnel are collectively referred to as the Command Staff.

Incident Commander

The Deputy is the support position for all the following positions except the Incident Commander.

Branch Director

If you are a Group Supervisor working in a Branch within the Operations Section. The Branch Director is your immediate supervisor.

Strike TeamTask Force

Strike Teams have similar resources.

Task Forces are comprised of mixed resources.

Liaison Officer

The Liaison Officer is the point of contact for other response organization.

Leaving an Incident Assignment

Complete all tasks and required forms/reports.

Return any incident-issued equipment or other non-expendable supplies.

Brief replacements, subordinate, and supervisor.

Operations Section

If you are implementing tactical activities to achieve the incident objectives, then the correct title of the ICS organization element to which you are assigned is the Operations Section.

Command terminology

The ability to communicate within ICS is absolutely critical. To ensure efficient, clear communication, ICS requires the use of Command terminology.

Incident Command System

ICS is a standardized approach to incident management that is applicable of ruse in all hazards.

Accountability

Check-in, initial briefing, recordkeeping, and demobilization procedure are all necessary to ensure accountability.

Span of Control

The number of individuals or resources that one supervisor can manage effectively during an incident.

Planning Section

The major activities of the Planning Section include preparing and documenting Incident Action Plans.

Officer

In ICS, the members of the Command Staff assume the title of Officer.

Incident Commander

The Incident Commander has overall responsibility for managing the on-scene incident.

Finance/Administration

The Finance/Administration is the ICS function that records time accounting and procures needed items.
