MASS INTENTIONS & CALENDAR FOR WEEK OF NOV. 10TH - 17TH
(Special Intentions)
A preacher visits an elderly woman from his congregation. As he sits on the couch he notices a large bowl of peanuts on the coffee table. "Mind if I have a few" he asks. "No, not at all" the woman replied. They chat for an hour and as the preacher stands to leave, he realizes that instead of eating just a few peanuts, he emptied most of the bowl.
"I'm terribly sorry for eating all your peanuts; I really just meant to eat a few." "Oh that's all right" the elderly woman says. "Ever since I lost my teeth all I can do is suck the chocolate off them." Sometimes we can find ourselves in places and situations that we wonder how did we ev-er get here. It can be a conversation that turns sour as we join in the gossip that tears down another’s reputation. Maybe we intended just to have a drink or two and now we are far over our limit. Perhaps it is the conversation in the chat room which quickly is heading to the danger zone. Or maybe it is expressing our affection to our dear one that is rapidly escalating in a way that is best reserved for those who are married. We excuse ourselves and offer the rationale that it just sort of happened; it wasn’t my fault. That is a copout. If we are honest we can admit that we chose to ignore the danger signs. We play our game of pretend innocence. No more, be vigilant. Stop the behavior before it goes too far or something far worse than merely eating a few peanuts will grip your life.
