We will have a box at every meeting to collect the scraps for our FURRY FRIENDS in need........

Puppy Pillows

l. We can keep everyone in the loop by reminding them in the Newsletter to keep their clean fabric scraps NO batting in a clean large plastic zipper bag or clean container at their home. Just keep them handy so when we meet, they can just pull the bag out and drop it off at our pick up point. Sometimes it will be at our meeting or at Jon Ali. I do not have a storage spot at my home to collect them over time.

2. We most likely will do the pillows at Jon Ali's in Octo-ber, Jan., and March of the year. Chris has always allowed us to use the classroom on a Sunday to make the pillows.

3. We can use the Newsletter to let everyone know the drop off dates and location, sewing dates, and any other plans for those that are inclined to help.

I hope this gives enough direction to our membership so we can keep this needed contribution to our furry friends.

Thanks Karm Webert

PROGRAM BOOKLET: Quilt Show Program Advertising I need your help, I am putting together the advertising for the Quilt Show Program. This years program book is slated to be an extremely effective form of advertising to those who are participating. Rather than seeing the programs in the trash can at the end of the show, they will be something to hang onto. Number 1, they will be in full color glossy card stock. They will be marketed as something to keep for the next year. They will have some terrific offers in them (how does FREE fabric sound?). If you or your friends or family would be interested, please call or email me the name and the phone number. I will then contact them and set an appointment to go over ad layout and design as well as effective marketing concepts. Thanking you in advance. Stephanie Mueller

FOOD COURT: Linda Caringella is working with the Health Dept.  so we can continue to have a success‐ful yummy event.

The Lapel Pins have the quilt show theme "Under the Desert Stars" on the outside of a triangular pin. The center of the pin is the star that is on the 'Opportunity Quilt'. The pins will be available for purchase at our meetings; $5.00 Each. Show your support by wearing this special pin. See Diana Stebbens at the meeting to purchase your Lapel Pin. What we’ll be wearing at the show: Blue Bandana (doesn’t have to be the same shade for everyone), white shirt, and dark pants.

SANDY WILLIAMS: I was raised in Riverside, Ca. Where I met my husband Chet in the 7th grade, we were 13. In 1959, after I graduated with my M.A. from Lawton Med School, Beverly Hills, we were married and just celebrated 54 years. We have two daughters, two grandsons, and one granddaughter, who is the mother of our two great-grandsons.

Chet and I moved to Ventura Ca. where he was a Deputy Sheriff and I was an insurance processor. We retired in 1992 and moved to Magalia Ca. We had never lived where there were seasons and when Chet could not get his 4x4 truck out of the garage due to snow, we decided to travel.

We lived in our motor home for over four years. We had friends that lived out here and the winter weather was so great, the people so friendly, that these SNOWBIRDS decided to settle here. We had met so many nice people we started a motorcycle club, in the campgrounds, called the CRS. It is still active. We bought a home in 2000 and have loved it here.

A friend from Canada took me to Jon Ali's to pick up material to finish her quilt. I found some cat material. I called to see if Dotti Adams and Barb Dottl would take me shopping for material and their husbands said that they would be happy to contaminate me. They did. I joined the guild in May of 2008 and the first year I made 18 quilt tops. 14 went to comfort quilts.

My husband’s grandmother pieced a quilt a month until she died at the age of 99, his aunt and cousins also quilt. If we had lived closer to them I am sure it would not have taken me 40 years of being in the family to quilt.

I enjoy knitting, crocheting, cross stitch and making bags. Any thing to keep my hands busy.

The 2009 quilt show was the first one I had ever gone to or seen. I didn't even know that there were quilt shows. I am in awe of the talent that I saw there. To be a part of it was an honor. I had so much fun finishing PIGs and the things for the boutique. I learned so much from them.

I have enjoyed Comfort quilts , QATL, being Hostess chairperson and the classes. Chet & I are both involved with Havasu Search and Rescue.

Thank you for the Nomination. Sandy Williams.

ZOLA STUART

I joined the Stitchers three years ago. I was introduced to the guild by Sandy Williams, and have learned a lot from her.

I started quilting about 24 years ago in San Diego. A friend I was working with took me to a yardage store and away I went. Started with around the world quilt for a king size bed.

As far back as I can remember, there were no quilters in my family.

I used to make all my children’s clothes when they were little and all my husbands shirts. Used to love making clothes, but now I would rather quilt and make things like purses and such. I’ve made all the relatives quilts and some of them more than one. Now I'm into making things for my great grandchildren.

My husband and I have been in Lake Havasu since 2004.

We came out here from San Diego, Calif. where my husband and I had our own trucking business , each having our own truck. We did that for about 30 years before retiring.

My husband had been here years ago, we also had friends here . So we decided to come and have a look around. We decided that we could sell the house and business and get out of all debt by moving here. We bought the lot, had the house built and was able to pay for it all. So here we are enjoying the heat. ha ha.

I think my favorite charity is the community outreach where we are able to make lap quilts the things for the people in rest homes and for the children in need of blankets and bibs and such. Love it.

My husband and I are involved pretty heavily with the Lake Havasu Sheriffs Search and Rescue. We also helped to go out and aid one of the SAR men with making of maps of the area mountains and desert to help people find their way without getting lost.

Thank you all for this nomination. I can't believe it!
