The role of the university has significantly changed

Universities: Engines for regional growth

• Foundation for new venture creation in addition to their traditional role as research and teaching institutions

• New names for this kind of entrepreneurship– academic entrepreneurship (Powers et al., 2004)– faculty entrepreneurship (Chrisman et al., 1995).

• Spin off their research as new firms• Foundation of the entrepreneurial university -

> broad spectrum of entrepreneurship courses

Problems• Most universities lack resources and

competencies for entrepreneurship teaching– Organizational inertia (teaching job-taking)– Students do not see themselves as ent.

• Main competence of the university is still teaching and accumulating knowledge

• No comprehensive set of entrepreneurship courses (specialized courses)

A solutionIn regions with densely located universities,

collective educational efforts can have positive coordination effects– Satisfying the needs of a large volume of students

with diverse backgrounds– Enhance the supply of entrepreneurship courses– Each university can specialize

• Collaboration - swap : 1) students & 2) faculty• An organization that coordinates and

develops 1) skills among faculty and 2) need among students
