One Laptop per Child
The One Laptop per Child scheme works to produce laptops that can be bought for $100 or less, and work in remote areas with high temperatures and humidity.
The XO laptop has been specially developed to distribute to children in the world’s poorest countries. This computer is only the size of a textbook, and has built-in wireless and a screen that is readable under direct sunlight – making it suitable for children who work outdoors.

Impact on legislation
The rise in ICT has resulted in new legislation being introduced by parliament.
The Data Protection Act 1998 is made up of eight key points, and safeguards people’s privacy. It demands that data users keep information secure and up to date, and that they do not use it for longer than is necessary.
The Digital Economy Act 2010 focuses on the copyright of digital media. Internet Service Providers (ISPs) are required to disclose the details of customers who repeatedly infringe copyright laws.
